South central Colorado is really beautiful this time of year, especially after kiddie season. Have done a lot of exploring in that area but had never done East Fork Rd., Elwood Pass Trail, whatever. Basically it's from just out of Pagosa Springs, up over the Pass and then on to wherever you want. We went down to below Platoro because I have a friend that has a summer place there. This turns out to be a stocker trail, low water crossings this time of year and no real challenges for almost any 4x4 (no, not your Honda Pilot). This is near Creede if any of you went there this year and scenery is similar- absolutely gorgeous.

Very nice! Does that mean they opened the road at the bottom of the pass? It was closed due to a slide last I checked (a year or two ago) and it's been probably 10 years since I've driven Elwood.

Very pretty area, and very close to some REALLY wild areas.

Right now the road is closed on Tue. and Weds. for work just before the bottom of the pass. Other than that it's in great shape. And yep, it's close to some very lonely country. Great for another month or so, hopefully.

That area is really nice! The last time I was in the area (past wolf creek) we were driving on a back road and we came across a beer crossing the trail. There are lots of ghost towns around as well... My folks have told me about some they went to back in the 70's. Would like to spend more time checking it out.

So, inquiring minds want to know. Is this a hybrid between a deer and a bear ... or did the bottle have legs?

Lol...how about bear. But it would be cool to see a bottle with legs, I believe it would hang out with big foot.

Seeing a bottle with legs might be a really bad sign.

What you said...

Great looking '09 Taco and great scenery along Elwood Pass. This summer I plan on driving across Elwood pass to Pagosa Springs from the East anywhere along I-25. Do you have a path recommendation for me?

Nice! Jen and I went up Elwood in the stock 4R a summer or two ago as a day trip out of Pagosa. It was awesome. I especially loved the looks I got from the 4 wheelers coming the other direction

I'm thinking we need to put this trip on the docket for this summer
