i was driving down the street in my 1979 FJ40 (stock) and all of a sudden my electrical just died out  . Absolutly nothing working. I have a new battery and it works just fine. Cecked all the fuses and they are fine as well. Can anyone tell me were to look to find this problem. Thanks alot.

Have you checked the seats of the fuses (in the block)? In my case, one of the arms holding the fuse for the ignition was broken loose. Chafed/loose wires may also contribute. Good luck, Claudia

The first thing to get power from the bat. is the amp gauge, make sure power is getting to/through it.

Aalien is right. Perhaps your fusable link is toasted.

i just tried the fuse box and all the fuse arms appear to be solid.

where do you have power and where do you not have power? be specific. test light and get going.

if no power to fuse box, check the fuse links, ( check these POS wires anyways), then if they are good, look at the wiring from the battery into the cab, there is a plug with a white and blue strip that runs from the bat to fuse box, this has caused me a bit of trouble.

The only place I am getting 12v is wear the amp meter plugs in. I am getting 2v from the two top fuses taillights and stop-horn fuse. Every thin else is dead.

It appears to me that the ammeter plug crosses the fusable link coming off of the battery in a '79.

That says to me that your fusable link blew. That implies you have a wire or component grounding out where it shouldn't be. The link blew, which protected you from having a fire. You have some tracing to do.

Thank you for all the help it was the blue and white wire that Idave pointed out.
But in fixing that problem I apparently must have pulled a wire lose that gives the power to the carburetor solenoid.
