Is there a solid write up for OBD2 EGR delete? All the threads I see have OBD1 and 2 all mixed together and it’s tough for my ADD ass to follow. Help please?

1) Pull the EGR at the manifold and the head. Pull the EGR regulator.
2) Use the gaskets as patterns, trace around them with a sharpie on some 1/8" steel, I used steel for hot side and Aluminum for cold side.
Drill out the holes, cut the rest with a hacksaw. File off the burs.
3) Install the new block off plates with original gaskets and high-temp Permatex gasket maker.

4)Leave the temp sensor in the manifold, it's now a plug. Cut the temp sensor wire in a convenient location. Solder a 5K ohm resistor between the wires on the plug side. Back fill wire jacket with blue RTV to seal the resistor.

5) reroute and or plug EGR vacuum lines. See image above, red silicone line with BHCS installed

Step six... You're gonna need it. Might need a step six after steps one and three in all honesty. ;)

Here endith the lesson.

I read that EGR prevents pinging/knocking/pre-detonation. Has anyone had trouble with pinging after removing EGR?

"The EGR valve is supposed to open when the engine is accelerating or lugging under a load. This allows intake vacuum to suck some exhaust in through the EGR valve to dilute the air/fuel mixture slightly. This lowers combustion temperatures and prevents knock."

"EGR keeps combustion temperatures down, reducing the tendency to detonate. If the EGR valve is inoperative or someone has disconnected or plugged its vacuum hose, higher combustion temperatures can cause pinging."

I have not experienced this. And I do occasionally run it hard, 65mph in second gear pulling a load up a 7% grade for a couple miles.
Route 26 just into NC from Greenville SC, its a pretty good hill, as they go on the east coast.

Nary a problem with mine. I pull a trailer with total load about 4500 lbs. at times. No trouble.

Rusty marlin, And this process will prevent a check engine light? I can pass inspection now with it on, but I’m an anal MFer.

if you are obd 1 you will not get a check engine light. if you are obd 2 you will need the resister mod to keep the check engine light off

USE THIS.

Plug and play, looks factory, not expensive, arrives quickly.
I second this. This is technically all you need to get to disable it. If you want to declutter your engine bay, buy keychains in addition.
