craigslist Edited to: Best bang for buck and LC prices chart.. What LC to buy?

I went and looked at the 2003 40k (it's prestine as it looks online) one in Bellevue and they have 2004 with 130k (paint isn't quite as nice in person and they have the front windows tinted quite a bit)... they've been really responsive to my questions but $30+ for a 14 year old car is a tough one for me.

If you go on their website, you can also pull the carfax report. Came from West Virginia and was a corporate company car. Also had their radio/sound system checked by the dealer out there (MFD gremlins possibly).

Buy the blue one and build it up!

Buy the 2006 if you plan to build it. I own an 06 and the extra 15hp helps for going up hill. Love mine!

Did the 4 pinion front diff replace the 2 pinion unit in 03 or 04? I know it's
somewhere in there...the 2 pinion is more prone to breaking under wheeling
conditions. So unless you plan on throwing lockers in it right away, that's
something to consider...if, in fact, the 03 is 2 pinion in the front diff.

It wasn't earlier than that like '02 or 2001? I can't recall either.
My $.02 is go for the '06. Mileage is sort of the least benefit, as 100k is still relatively low miles, and that's the thing that these do better than almost anything (rack up huge miles) so I wouldn't pay a hefty premium for it. The VVTI and other goodies may be appreciated and it will hold its value better (once you put on 80k one will have 180k, and the other will have 120k and one will be three years newer.

I'd definitely go for the '06 if you are going to do any kind of build at all- sliders, bumper and winches are HEAVY and you will definitely appreciate the extra hp. Also, the '06s seem to be holding their value quite well. I paid $25,000 for an '06 that was owned by one of the owners of the Toyota dealership in Victoria, Tx with 94,000 miles on it back in June of 2012!

2 pinion was 98-99 model years.....

So, I was trying to understand what is going on with LC pricing and trying to find the sweet spot of Value and bang for the buck, but also just trying to figure out what to pay. Pricing seems pretty random to me, but I don't clearly understand the nuance's of the different models.

I have two ideas going forward. 1. Buy or have built a Restomod 70. There are a few I am still looking at and look every day, but nothing that has said. Yup, that is it, pull the trigger. 2. I sold the Tesla and am selling the BMW M3 weekend car and want a Landcruiser as an every day driver that can also get me to rough spots for fly fishing, etc.

So, maybe this should be a separate post/ Question, but I am trying to figure out what I should get for #2 as soon as possible. I have some flexibility in price, year, but am convinced I want something 2 years old or better just to avoid that feeling of depreciation loud enough to hear.

This is NADA data I built from the website, just to ground me. I might do the same for KBB to see what that says, but curious in general peoples thoughts for the "Best bang for the buck" in an LC or Lexus and also if KBB or NADA are really reference points?

Thanks

Craig

You're in the right track. You may get more play posting this in the 100s tech section, I think they're is a long "what's the value" type thread. It's hard because it's not exactly tech relevant.
