I want a 1992-93 HiAce as it still has the hi/low range 4wd Instead of just full time 4wd. Problem with that is no turbo diesel. Hard decision to make! No turbo -low range or no low range but bigger turbo diesel w/full time 4wd.

So this one has 3.0 turbo diesel and 4x4 so it seems to solve all of your needs. With a 3.0L engine, you should be able to hit 75 mph, no?

Yes, but no low range!!! Just full-time 4wd.

oh, I see. Apologies for not making the connection.

No problem! Seems like the perfect van, but I don’t think I could live with no low range.

see the question I asked on the previous post.

see the question I asked on the previous post.

At least 70, probably 75, but they are geared for the lower speeds in Japan and not the high speed highways of the American west. I’m still investigating what the limits of the van and the advantages are compared to what I have already. And all the differences between the 90-93 iteration, and the 94+ HiAces.

The diff gears can easily be changed for higher hwy speeds and I'm guessing that the fueling can be "upped" for more power output. Let's start a new thread on this. @pappy, would you mind chopping and moving the last few threads to a new thread please? This is great stuff and something we don't think about very often.

Thank you Papster.

I love the combo of missing/flaking paint and tire shine on a dirt road! Did they apply it before or after driving to that spot to take that image?

1993 Toyota HiAce Super Custom Limited, 4x4, 2.8L naturally aspirated 4 cylinder diesel engine. Hi-Low range. It can be fitted with an after market air locker on the rear. Also can be lifted easily 2.5” to accommodate larger tires on 15” rims. I think you can also find 16” rims that will fit. Biggest drawback is that it is very slow on hills and cannot travel at speeds commensurate with highways in the american west.

Are you saying the perfect Toyota van doesn't exist? A van with a turbo 3.0 diesel and 4x4 with low range wasn't made? Is a low range transfercase conversion possible with the 3.0 turbo diesel?

Are the models similar enough that you could put the transmission and transfer case from an older one into a newer one with the bigger engine?

You are right, the perfect Toyota van does not exist in the wild, but can be created in the lab!

So, how soon are you going to get on this?

Edit: Opps, sorry @alia176. Didn't mean to step on your toes. I know how much you love finding ways to spend other peoples money. I'll stay in my lane. :flipoff2:
