E&E Off-Road 200 Series Skid Plate System (3 Viewers)

See my post here for the skids with a Dissent Front bumper. No "integration" but the two fit pretty well next to each other.

 
Now that I have an 80 for the more aggressive trails, I'm looking to go with this lighter and cooler (figurative and hopefully literal) option for the 200. If I remember correctly when I installed my BudBuilt skids, I put in a t-case cross member, but I don't remember if I removed something that would be necessary for these skids to replace the BudBuilt. Also would need to integrate with the Dissent front bumper.

Anyone installed these after having run the BudBuilt and/or integrated with the Dissent front bumper?
There shouldn't be anything, that was removed for the BB install, required for these to be installed.

You will be removing close to 100lbs going from BB steel (171lbs) to these (75lbs).
 
Added the rear skid/bumper to an AHC equipped LX.

Just got a set of E&E Skid Plates for the LC, shipping was really fast to CA (thanks @turbo8).
Has anyone added drain (vent) holes in the plates to reduce mud buildup on top of the skids at the brackets or to provide any additional air flow?
 
What is the purpose of getting full length skid plates? Is this for rock crawling?
No really rock crawling per say, but for better coverage for unseen rocks at speed, the occasional crawl over the rock in the middle of trail that may be just a little high and some deterrent for have my cats stolen. I did smash up my engine skid last weekend, so that needed to be replaced anyway.
 
I will preface this post with “don’t do this” but figured it would be a useful PSA. If you are running a Dirty Deeds exhaust the exquisitely machined dogbone that braces the E&E transfer case guard will interfere with the center resonator tube. I chose to relieve the dogbone (reducing strength for sure) to allow for installation of the E&E skids.








There is still a fair amount of meat on the bone so to speak, and given that I am not a hardcore rock crawler I can live with the incremental risk. Great system from E&E, fit and finish are fab.
 
I was wondering how much the exhaust note would change if the resonator tube was cut 3 inches shorter. Like you said, you will most likely be ok. If your driving style changes, I have a couple extra braces.
 
Inadvertently ran into some challenging muddy whoops on a hill climb. Speed needed to make the climb…and I do not have a lift. The skids took some hard hits. Will see what they look like after the hose tomorrow.

Nice to see you are using them, still need to get mine out there.

Seems like the skids held up quite well. No sign of distortion, just some scratches and a LOT of collected mud. Here is a shot or 2 before cleaning:





I ran gallons of water through the skids but couldn’t get to a point where the water ran clear so figured the heavier sand/dirt was sitting in the water traps in the skid.


And after cleaning:















I think I will need to remove the main plates themselves to get the rest of the dirt out.
 
The oil filter door took the worst hit and it wasn’t bad at all.


That was my first experience with really deep mud. There were a couple times where I was fully bottomed out and had to rock aggressively to make progress. I’m not sure I would have made it without the slick underside and extra clearance these skids provided. So I am a happy customer even if I did carry home more of Mendocino than intended. And I will be shopping for a lift soon lol.

I don't mud ever really get all washed off. Glad to see the skid held up well. Do you think properly located drain holes would have make an easier task of cleaning?

Mixed opinions. Drain holes will help cleanup but could also provide grab points for rocks etc. The metal in the kit is quite corrosion resistant so there probably isn’t much harm letting water and dirt sit in there. The water will eventually dry off.

On balance I think maybe a few small (5/8 or 3/4”) drains might be ok.

Well, since it is the correct date (look at the date), I might offer these updated skids for maximum mud drainage. Removes 10lbs..lol

Totally random question: With the software/methods you use, how long did it take to add the perforations to the existing model for the above photo?

A long time ago I did some CAD and I'm curious what the current state of design efficiency is for processes like this.
