I may be going. I was hoping on sharing a cabin?!! if there is any room in a prim. do we need to call dtown for the cabin or hook up on here?

Yes - you need to call Durhamtown for a Cabin. As of about two days ago all of their cabins were rented except the primitives and a mobile home 3 miles off site. They have plenty of camping though and I think RV hook ups too. I planned on getting a UC cabin but they sold out in no time.

This thread has died? Is anyone else planning to go? I don't get out too much, but can still make this trip. In fact, planning to take Fri off and get up there at a decent hour on Fri... around 1:00 or so.

What's the deal with everyone else?

I cant go, confirmed...no top and will have the boys...and just getting back from a week away at Disney.

Have fun!

A couple of us from Lowcountry will be heading up on Friday....a few more on Saturday morning. See you guys there...

Can someone PM me their number in case my campsite is not near where everyone is staying...so we can meet up on time Saturday morning?

Did you make campsite reservations? Hope they don't fill up... I didn't make any reservations. Guess I should call them.

I'll be up at around 3 and will PM my number to you. I have no idea what the layout and I know Steve is going the cushy route in the cabin... not sure where they are in relation to the camp sites, but if it gets cold I'll find it :grinpimp:.

I'm planning to eat at the "restaurant" this trip... cooler of beer is all I'm planning to pack.

Hey guys - I'm told there are plenty of primitive campsites BUT I would call ahead to double check.

I have a primitive cabin - basically a heater with two single beds and nothing else, including space. The primitive cabins, I'm told, are located with the primitive camping.

I will PM you my # in a sec. I should be there Friday around 4 maybe give or take a few hours. The wife wants to stop in Athens on the way down.

Ali loves Athens - then we visited after she had been out of undergrad for several years - that place had changed.

Kids were walking the streets trying to intimidate people into 'giving' them money...it got nasty real quick unfortunately.

We are going to try it again. Is the little zoo still there? Ali worked there while she was in undergrad.

I haven't been on a non-football saturday in a lot of years so on game day nothing has really changed other than the new restrictions on tailgating anywhere you could find a spot.

I may stop by Fri as well... just depends on when I get out of Alph.

Sorry everyone! Callie and I REALLY wanted to go to this one and I was excited to see everyone again and make a few introductions, but we're just not gonna make it this weekend. I hate it, but hopefully we'll make it to the next one. You guys have fun this weekend though! Sorry we wont be there.

This was a great trip. Getting to the "lodge" was something I didn't expect. Very much like a ski resort setting for 4 wheelers and bikes. At that point I was pretty glad I didn't have the wife in tow.

Once we got into the primitive camping area, it really was nice and secluded. Great place to hang out. It got very cold Fri night (low 20's) and Sat was a bit warmer. Had a couple of great fires and a couple of beers and all was good. Of course Steve and Ali stayed in the deluxe accomodations sipping their Cuervo while us common folk were sucking on beers.

The trails were fun... a bit muddy and slick (understatement), a little bit of damage to Pat's FJC, and a couple of interesting moments. What was really nice is the place was big enough, and there weren't many trucks out there so we didn't run into many other groups, and were never slowed down by anyone.

It was great to see you all again, and Pat, nice to meet you and I look forward to wheeling with you again soon.

All in all, I'd definitely go back.

Didn't get a lot of pics or vids but here's what I have.

The lineup.

This was an interesting spot...

A steep decent that was a series of ledges followed by what felt like straight dropoffs.

Brock went first... then Pat. This is what I saw...

I went next and was really glad to have some MT's and not be in the hundy...

Then Steve has a go at it... "oh sh*t" (I had plenty of places to run to, and time to do it, but this time I thought I might have to)

It was a bit slick!!!

Later we have to cross a downed tree, with a standing tree in the way. Pat with the 31 AT's had some trouble getting over and slid his way up the hill. It got very tight so we did some fancy winching of the tree, and stacking of rocks to get him out of the situation... what could have been a mess turned into a great opportunity to put a little bandaid on the truck :grinpimp:

That's all I have.

Good times :)

I had a very good time - Ali wasn't too impressed with being decorated (mud slinging inside the FJC).

It was either slick, steep, or deep - and most of the time it was a combination of those three - often all three.

I have a bunch of pics and video I'm downloading now. I'll post them and some comments later today hopefully.

Thanks to EVERYONE who came. We had a small but very good group. Brock saved my bacon a couple times with spotting help. Pat seemed to have a good time and Steen loved his granny gear out there. Benke showed up with two friends who camped near us. We enjoyed having everyone. UC supplied a simple dinner and breakfast for all who showed (7 including Benke's two friends).

Ali was not impressed when we slid down that steep hill. "Oh s***" "You guys shouldn't be there"
