Durable solution for torn speaker covers?

I took my door apart (pretty easy to do), cleaned off the excess adhesive, then painted them. It's actually a plastic, not metal cover on the speakers.

I covered mine with black speaker cloth but I still make an effort not to put my shoe on it. After seeing fireball's pics I'll go that route next time.

ANyone know the color brown to use? I like the contrasting color versus the tan. Need to do all 4. Thank you.

The grills underneath look better, IMO than the cloth anyway. Painted mine Krylon flat black a few weeks back. Great contrast.

I just did my front ones today. Painted tan bedliner. Plus put new infinity speakers front and rear, and new sub. Just re-glued the sub speaker cloth as it was in decent shape.

Which sub did you go with? I have a twelve i want to use but its a tight fit with the third row.

I used a cheap Pyle one off Amazon in the stock location. 3rd row seats get used regularly, so no room for a separate box.

Do you happen to have the part number?
Pyle PLPW6D 6-Inch 600 Watt Dual 4 Ohm Subwoofer

This is for my '04

edit -> this sub sucks...

Matches pretty close to darker accent color

I removed the cover because it looked like this....

Then painted it with some spray paint from Lowes that was a "camo" tan color. There are so many shades of tan in the truck it looks like it belongs and way better than it was. I am very happy a year later.

I found a replacement mesh on ebay, it matched color and texture quite well. if you look at the need subwoofer thread I created, you'll find it.
It's nice stuff. I believe Parts Express was another vendor that sells it as well.

Example:

Speaker Grill Cloth Light Sand/Tan/Beige Front Fabric Mesh Home Car Audio 36x66"

@El Cid - do you have any pics of this mesh installed?...

@El Cid - Thanks for the link to the speaker fabric. I had forgotten where I found it.

For those interested, below are pics of the eBay mesh linked above installed on my 98 LC. They sent enough material to do ~16 door speakers for $8. It's not any more durable than the factory cloth, but turned out great with plenty of material left over should any need to be redone down the road.

I posted this over a year ago and still haven't gotten this done - pathetic! I'm torn (no pun intended) between the weather wood @Scotch posted and the camo tan @montegofd3s posted. While I admire the oem nature of the ebay mesh @labcab posted, I know my kids will destroy them after one ski season so I'm going to stick with paint.

So the question is did you guys paint the speaker covers while on the door or did you remove them? If you removed them, did you have to remove the entire door card?

I decided to replace my speakers this weekend so while I was in there took care of the speaker cover. Taking the door panel off wasn't too bad. I'd certainly recommend removing the covers to paint. I also ended up doing one coat on the back as you could still see some of the bare plastic through the mesh with a few coats on the front. Door panel removal instructions here

I removed them. The plastic covers are just held on the door skins with 4 little screws on the back side. Very easy to take off. Once of just clean them with some sort of cleaner and apply some pray paint. Easy peasy and I promise you will be happy.

Awesome - thanks guys! Going to head to Lowe's this weekend and get this done!

I know this is old, but I wanted to say thank you for providing the color you found. At first I couldn't find that exact one, so I bought a few others that looked close according to the cap, but they weren't close at all. I finally found the one you mentioned, Rustoleum Weathered Wood, and it is a very very close match for me.
