There is a strange noise coming from the front of the engine. It looks like the drive belt or fan clutch could be the problem. It acts like it wants to stall almost. I made a video but can't seem to post it. I'll keep trying. I don't think I will drive it. Anybody know how I can post a video? 140k miles on a 2004 lc. Timing belt/water pump and tensioners were done by the dealer around 100k.

An easy way to post a video is to upload to YouTube, then post the link here. Good luck with your issue.

That looks like your water pump bearings going out. I've never had this happen an a 100 series, but the movement in the fan/clutch assembly looks like it goes all the way back to the pulley. I'd pull the serpentine belt and check for play.

I believe it is the fan clutch bracket bearing.

I think @gil12 has it right. The fan bracket bearing is not usually replaced by the dealer as part of the T-belt service and they do go bad sometimes (mine did). You may be able to tell if you remove the serp belt.

I suppose the fan clutch could be grabby; does it turn smoothly with the engine off. Does the noise go away or get worse at higher rpm.

I agree, clearly looks like fan bracket wobbling in video. This is often confused with water pump, as like seen in older vehicles.

Not running engine at this time is a good idea. Otherwise fan blades and radiator fins may be damaged if fan wobbles to much.

Reach down and grab just behind fan clutch where bolts are, and see if wobbles with engine off.

After looking at the diagram would agree with you two.

Mine did the same thing, that is the fan bracket. It is kind of time consuming to replace, but it is not a hard job.

$110 on Amazon for the OE Aisin fan bracket assembly and it has free one day shipping right now so you have it in time for install this weekend. :wrench::steer:

+1 fan bracket here. I replaced the tensioner, Idler, Drive Belt, Timing Belt, and Water Pump.. As things started to come off the engine, I spun them by hand.. Sure enough, that damn Fan Bracket is what was making my LC sound like it had a Diesel motor. Now it sounds quiet as a sewing machine! Wonderfully quiet with all new bearings/belts in the front..
