I did a search here yrs ago and found folks used a clear plastic hose that fits the drain tube and grommet in the trans hump perfectly. I had to heat up the one end so it fit vent pipe tight. Bought if from home depot cheap. I don't recall the size. Maybe like 3/4x1", I think it was 6ft long.

Not available from Toyota anymore? That’s where I got mine but it was some years ago.

That is the 1/75 and later style. The style used from the 66 model thru the 74 has a 90° bend to go thru the firewall. Then another 90° bend to go straight down. Problem with 90° fittings is it leaves a lip inside that can collect debris and plug. This is not a fast flowing drain that help keep it clear. Depending on where the cruiser is parked debris can build up quickly. If the vent is operational it could overflow inside the cab.

I know, I posted a link in post #4 for the earlier style hose that City Racer offers. My comments on the later style hose was in response to post 5 & 6.

I’m going to jump into the conversation here because I have the same problem: the 2 rubber tubes on the engine-side of the firewall of my ‘73 FJ40 are completely dry rotted and falling out.

I need to understand a little better what these drain lines do. The lines look like they drain the well at the base of the windshield, but some of the posts here show pics of lines INSIDE the cab.

How do these lines work? Mine look like they simply go from the firewall to below the frame. Am I missing something??

You're correct that's what they do. Some later yrs the drain tubes went thru the trans hump, inside.

Yeap that's pretty much all they do.
Does the drain hose press into a firewall grommet to secure that end?

I’m wondering if I could press a tubing elbow into the firewall, then connect some hose to the elbow…

Just being a cheapskate!!

on some models there is a tab welded on the firewall that holds it in place, but loose is just fine too. There are grommets that the drain hose passes thru on earlier models located on the firewall and late FJ40's have grommets thru the trans hump.

I think there are nipples on the vent housing under the dash for the hoses to slide on to and clips to hold the hoses in place. It might be difficult to adapt something to work because there are several bends to get the hoses thru the firewall. I found hose at home depot to work for later versions that go thru the tranny hump. You want to address the issue so water doesn't rust the floors out.

These are called rain leader hoses in the catalog. They are like sunroof drains for the cowl vent.

The grommets are still available from Mr T, part #90480-25125. I'm not sure on the hoses / tubes, mine were still usable.

They exit out the firewall. Here is a pic of mine after I changed out the grommet on the pass side. This is a 66 so your's may be a bit different but you get the idea.
