They already here bro

I think many of us bought new 200s.

While you and 2,500 others bought Land Cruisers in 2020 in the US, the 250 is selling 2x that per month. From a sales perspective, the market is providing the right vehicle with the 250 regardless of the complaining here. Had the 200 been selling 50,000 units per year that is the vehicle we would have.

What I've never understood is why Toyota sees Jeep with 150-200k vehicle sales and doesn't provide an answer built off the 70 chassis. You'd think that would be an easy and ripe market.

yes, we should tell them

Selling more because it is a class lower vehicle.

Like Mercedes selling C-class vehicles everywhere else and putting an E-class badge on it in the US.

Sure they would sell in higher numbers, yet shifts sales from one model to the other in the longer term.

Curious as well. I really like the 250 on paper, and I do like the look. Maybe a rental is what I need to cure the desire. A lot of the 250 hate sounds like the same stuff when the 80 series was replaced by the 100, and 100 replaced by the 200.
the replacement for the 200 is 300, not the 250 - not even in the same league.. the 250 should be compared with the 150 prado, not 200 cruiser

In Toyota’s grand vision and seeking out to provide what the market demands, do the engineers, focus groups, etc ever frequent mud/taco truck world?/tundraville? I know this is a naive question, but there’s a few members here who have been invited to see factories, provide engineering input, etc iirc. With this in mind, doing some reading on an enthusiast forum may provide some sort of feedback of their core target demographic. The Internet forum is not real life (yes, I get it), however there’s quite a bit of GREAT data to be had on this forum specifically regarding issues, fixes, etc for their flagship product.

Always interesting to see long term how big corporate right hand not knowing what the left hand is doing.

Would you say the same about LX570 and LC200? LX470 and LC100?

Besides the Land Cruiser naming "issue" with the 250, fact is anyone who wants a 300 series can simply walk into a Lexus dealership right now and open their wallet. (Open it wide)
they are the same thing except the grill.... or am i wrong

Fair point. Though the 6.4 Hemi is still the only gasser powerplant for the HD, the Hurricane is optional in the 1500. And the move away from the 5.7 was largely due to pressure from the Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares (hence fired from Stellantis) with his Euro mindset and lack of understanding of the American market. With Tim Kuniskis back, Ram is hinting of a Hemi 5.7 revival.

Further, the Hurricane doesn't gain much (if any) real world mileage, at least accoring to the early reviews. I think the issue was more that the pushrod 5.7 was at the edge of what they could acheive on emissions. And the Hurricane isn't downgrade on power, doesn't require a complicated hybrid system, and is an improvement on NVH - all factors missing from the 4 pot 250 mill. Having a sweet turbo'd I-6 in the 250 would have been a great choice and, IMO, would have honored the Land Cruiser name.
HD’s aren’t subject to the same issues. Ford still has a 7.3 and 6.8L push rod port injected V8 and GM is using a 6.6 pushrod DI motor.

Real world performance doesnt really matter, only how it performs in the EPA test, which is where the iForce max seems to do well. If you go by fuelly.com, it offers virtually no improvement over the non-hybrid versions of the same motors.

The only real beef I see is branding the 250 what it is. Or is not.

Not unlike Lexus branding.

What we call things, and the connotations and perceptions associated with them, is a big deal for many.

i look at the 250 as a great replacement for say a jeep or a Bronco, similar price points, and i think its nicer overall.
is it a 300?... No - thats what we actually want here in this forum, in all its Specs from GX to Sahara, but we will only get the LX version because that's what sells. At least you can now get a Twin locked LX..

anyway, we are going to replace a Jeep Sahara with a 250, pretty soon. The 200 stays.. no plans for it

With the fake name Toyota did in USA (by not calling it a Prado) - it is a great "step up" up for Taco and 4Runner bros, who can now tell people they drive a LC without spending the coin...

Every Jeep/Bronco owner I know (brothers/cousins), no one wants a 250....

Most 250 owners are instagram bros who already own Toyotas...

We own a wrangler (2 actually), and yeah i'm going to replace one of them with a 250....Most jeep owners, probably not, but then again they don't take all these built up jeeps off road anyway.
I do agree they should have called it the Land Cruiser Parado like the rest of the world.
They all have their place, and basically no one bought enough 200 series here in the states to justify bringing it back, at least right now..

By leaving off the Prado name, they really are putting salt in the wound for the previous LC owners who were looking forward to the new generation.

We know for sure now, we are not ever getting the full size LC back in the States. (And no, the LX 600 isn’t as appealing as the LC 300)

You need to time travel back to the late 80's/90's to make some headway on the Prado discussion. For maaaany years Toyota called the light duty Land Cruiser, a "Land Cruiser". It wasn't until markets started seeing high volumes of the HD an LD that they added the Prado naming nomenclature. As we don't have two Land Cruisers in our market, for the 99% of new-car buyers, it obviously works to just call it Land Cruiser and they don't care to learn about what a Prado is. :D

you are definitely not the typical Jeep owner

I think the LC250 is an awesome trail machine, on Moab type trails it will literally do circles around a 200, stock to stock. I've been fortunate to spend a ton of time on and off-road in the LC250 over the past 14 months in a variety of terrains, desert/sand, Moab, east coast trails, etc. Neat little machines and they are selling well. From a LC community standpoint, we may have some shelf life afterall.

I think the GX550 is even better, better motor, trans and 9.5" locked rear axle. Obviously that comes at a cost but they are rad. I'd love to race one in the Baja 1000 stock-mid class.

For the record, I love 200's, own em, race em, drive em, have trusted them in crazy remote places around the world. But that doesn't make the LC250 disappointing to me. I celebrate what they are, not what I wish they would have been. I can assure you 45LV owners were disappointed by the 55, 55 owners disappointed by the 60 and I remember first person 60 owners hating on the 80 when they were sold new. Lest we forget the hate the 100 and 200 got for, well, ever by many Land Cruiser enthusiasts who generally claims the "LC died" with whatever came after theirs :D

An LC250 1958 is exactly 1/2 the price of a new LX600. Sure, they slapped a Land Cruiser badge on there, but it's a frickin' bargain compared to a new LX600. A good fit for MANY consumers who want a capable (and hopefully) reliable SUV.
