So I kept wondering what the heck the rubber plug to the right of my rear view mirror was until I painted the windshield frame. Well, I saw that as a perfect opportunity to find a light to put there. I wound up wiring a switch into the dash (there was already a hole) so I could turn on my hard top light (side pillar) without having to fumble around and at the same time I wired this light into that switch too. This way, I have an interior light no matter which top, or none at all. Works great!

I don't have pics of the bracket I made, but basically I cut a small strip of sheet metal and drilled/tapped holes in it for the light. The ground attaches to this strip and the strip has turned down corners on it to "bite" into the back of the windshield frame to make the connection. There were no modifications to the truck other than the jumper wire from the hardtop light connection.

You're too fast.....yeah, it has a seal and everything. It's almost like it was made for it. The company is "Blazer" and it's carried by AutoZone.

Great idea! Have a light up high for when the top is on or off! I've been wondering what to do with that plug since I moved to hood mounted windshield washer jets.

You don't have to lose the washer nozzle in the windshield for this, it clears it. In fact, the washer tube is what holds the mounting plate in place so you can put the screws in.

Yes, it's plenty bright and you could always go LED if you wanted more. With the hardtop on and that light lit as well, it's VERY nice. I can finally see and all with just one switch flip.
