Well, finally got around to doing the birf job today since the truck needs brakes anyway. As I am putting the passenger side back together I find out the neither of my axle nuts that go on the spindle will thread more than 1/3 of the way to the front bearing, a not so good situation. Looking at the nuts, one of them appears to have the threads intact, the other is a mess  So the question is do you think I have screwed the spindle up? Is there any way to clean the threads off? Should I just keep going with the good nut once I get to the part where it gets really tough to turn? Any idea what a couple of nuts will cost me? Any idea what a spindle will cost if I cant clean the threads

Can you live without the truck for a few days? I wouldn't mess around. Get on the phone to C-dan on Monday and get two new nuts sent out to your location ASAP.

(Shaved nuts of course!) -Sorry, chit chat tie in...

How do the threads on the spindle look?

The nuts are only a couple of buck a piece, the spindle is close to 200 dollars and includes a new style roller bearing for the birfield support. If any of the threads are screwed up you are better off safety wise replace the spindle. This is a common but avoidable mistake that happens to the spindle. good luck later robbie

Hey Robbie, can those threads be repaired? Mine are in good shape, but just curious.

Steve, if you were in NJ I'd drop by and give you the ones I have, but Cdan can get them to you just as fast at this point.

Just the luck of the draw I guess  I'll try the new nuts when they come in on Tuesday. If that doesnt work I'll take it to a machine shop and see if they can clean the threads up a little....

They came off pretty easy, with just the socket and extention. I dont get it at all. Like I say, one of the nuts was pretty thrashed, the other looks fine from what I can tell...
