I am possibly interested in purchasing this LS swapped 88. Curious if anyone knows the truck or has seen any threads here on mud?

I have not seen that vehicle on this forum before. Looks like a sloppy conversion though. air filter too small and not in the front of engine bay for it to get cooler outside air, engine centered instead of offset correctly in engine bay, old original radiator, no AC, wiring looks ugly, and you will probably hate that shifter. That is just what we can see from two pictures.

link to for sale ad?

is no AC a concern?
Yes it sure is, good news It comes with parts.

and @cruisermatt yes the B&M 70's camaro shifter is puke. I would do the Lokar shifer that looks like a 4spd 60 shifter or retro the stock 62 auto shifter.

unless this truck is really cheap, and completely rust free, you'd be better off starting a clean stock one and doing the swap right the first time. At this point a 5.3/4l60 swap into a 62 is pretty easy to do on a professional level with my and Mosley Motor's combined product line.

100% rust free California original paint.

I don't know how to define cheap. Its not a Corsetti and its not a CruiserMatt build either

I'm currently doing a V8 swap in my 60 with Mosley + Matts parts and it does make it very easy.

Cheap to me is $10k or less. Looks like a total hack job to me personally. If they're going to skimp on the air filter (which you can buy universal cone filter kits for $120 give or take) what else did they skimp on?

You can see the cruise control unit on the driver's side fender well.
I never saw that unit before. Looked different than Rostra. Surprised it would have Cruise added but no AC

I use to install aftermarket cruise control back in the day at a car stereo shop for dealerships. Fly by cable pretty easy tach wire input brake light input a single small vacuum line and hook the cable up good to go .

Huge difference in paying someone to do the swap vs. On your own.

Most people don't have the time/tools/space/skills

So much easier to clean up some small oversights if the heavy lifting/welding/wiring is done in an apartment garage or on a weekend
Problem with it is you'll be chasing your trail trying to undo the PO's shoddy work and it'll be more frustrating than just paying someone to get the engine in properly and doing the small stuff yourself from the get go.

If this thing is cheap enough than yeah it makes sense to take it on but if this guy is asking $15k or more this is a hard pass.

If I were to buy this at the very least I'd reposition the motor, get the A/C going, replace the radiator with the Mosley or Griffin radiators, run a new air intake, install a mechanical fan + shroud and probably replumb the entire fuel system because I'd bet that was done on a budget too and I'd prefer not to go up in flames. Just to do the above you're looking at $1,500 - $2k just in parts alone to do it right.

Oh and I'd replace that god awful B&M shifter

Is it just me or does the paint color look different from the passenger door back? As others have said, these engine swamps open up a whole can of worms if they were not done well.

so many assumptions

does it run and drive ok now with the engine placed as is? prpbbaly so. Dshafts a bit close here and there? Probably fine for highway driving.
AC work is AC work, relatively minor underhood work, which would have to be done if you were doing a DIY swap anyway
does the radiator leak? even if it does, $300 and an afternoon and its fixed, not months on a DIY engine swap
fuel system? some EFI rubber hose and a good pump....rock on. since its a 62, it already has an intank setup
$200 air intake if you must.....i'm sure it runs fine now.

I bought a 62 with an LS/5 speed swap that was done at a repuatble 'shop' that posts on this very site........and it had corners cut

but it was running and driving and I fixed the small stuff as I went. no wiring, cutting, grinding, cursing, or nickle and diming.

or, if it makes all sorts of weird noises and vibrations and smells when test driving....then walk away.

simple

I agree that for the right price this is a project worth taking on especially if the body is in good shape - but if he's asking premium money for it he's out to lunch.

$300 for a radiator? No way, a Mosley is $800 and the Griffins and Ron Davis ones are even more expensive. I guess you could modify a universal one if you really wanted to though..

I just don't want OP to end up overpaying for a project.
