Alright guys and gals, Dobinsons have answered all the requests and made a 3-way adjustable front shock option for the 100 Series. Adjust high and low speed compression and rebound on these bolt-on external resi front shocks.

Available in 2 lengths:

I’ll place an order, as soon as I can schedule some “work from home” time.

There are some things that I do miss about the pandemic 🤪

Hahhaa, yeah. It was nice not having to go anywhere and having the ultimate excuse to stay home!!

Glad these are available for our 100 series!

These are getting pretty close in price to Kings. Any thoughts on going with one vs the other? (Apart from the level of adjustability with the extra dials on the dobinsons)

Mike-

- Do you know yet where the optimal reservoir mounting location for the fronts will be- to the frame or to the shock body?

- Shock service: you’ve experience now with rear MRA’s for a while, have you had any calls for service/rebuilds yet? Will that be something you can do ( proprietary oil, nitrogen recharge, bump stop, bushes etc)

Thanks

That adjustability is about 25% of the total cost component. If they didn't have the adjusters they wouldn't be as costly to make.

Everyone has been super happy with the non-adjustable internal resi IMS shocks, and they're half the price of these. There's a thread about them here:

I think it just depends what features you're looking for, how long you're prepared to wait (these are in stock, I've heard Kings are 6-9 months out on a lot of shocks), if you'd use the adjusters or not, and if you need the level of performance these shocks are recommended for (aka hard offroad and/or high speed desert driving).

It uses these holes here for the resi, right there in front of the shock on the frame. (see below)

Dobinsons in Miami offers full rebuilds. I've yet to ever send anyone there for that service. My MRA's have been in my 4Runner now for 2.5 years and about 30k miles and I haven't had any problems. Also, any shock rebuilder would be able to work on these, as the process is pretty much the same as Fox, Kings, etc.

I made this video when I was in Australia recently at Dobinsons HQ:

Anyone running these on a relatively heavy truck yet? About to install mine and I'm curious what kind of settings people have been using.

All of mine are relative lightweights, and I haven’t even gotten around to ordering a set of front MRAs yet (still on IMS).

If the fronts are anything like the rears, I’d try to dial in rebound first, HSC second, and LSC third. I’d probably start with rebound in the middle of the adjustment, both compression knobs at 1, and dial it in from there.

I’d also find a “loop” of speed humps, speed bumps, mid speed dips/bumps, and high speed dips/bumps…

Who else has theirs installed??

With just a couple of miles of 'butt feel' testing, I dig 'em. It's early to say too much yet. It'll probably be a week or so before I'll feel like I've settled on the right adjustment for road driving. A few more weeks before I get back on to a trail.

The only complaints I would have, and this is by Dobinson's (Exit and Mike are great): The adjustment for rebound is not conducive to being adjusted. I understand their approach was to minimize the amount of travel lost to accommodate this feature, but to me, the feature is close to pointless if I can't access it easily to adjust it on the fly. Laying on my back at a trail head, generally in dirt or mud, isn't an ideal way to use the feature. So that, and I really wish there was a way to mount the reservoir for the rear somewhere in the wheel well instead of being a piggy-back. For the same reasons as mentioned above, to a lesser extent. Also, I would have liked Dobinson's to include the necessary washers for the fronts. I got 6 bags of model specific hardware in the rear's box that will mostly go into my coffee can, but they didn't include the washers needed for the front.

Otherwise, I can't say anything bad about them. My complaints have really nothing to do with the actual function of the shocks.
