do you consider the 100 to be a good looking suv ?

I guess we should be happy it didn't turn out like it's ugly cousin, the Toyota Kijang.

Yes I do. Clean, simple and in no way tacky. They are purposeful looking and well-styled for their day.

However, FWIW, I think the 80 Series is better looking :whoops:

What size and type of tires (tyres ;) ) are you guys running over there? This one (below) looks really cool with the big, smooth tires.

..

Do you ?

Ahh... we need to make a clarification:
- Compared to other Land Cruisers, e.g. the 80? The 60? NO.
- Compared to a Range Rover, X5, Escalade, ML, GL, Cayenne, MDX (have one), Q7? YES!!!

I love the look of the 100 series landcruisers! It's got just the right boxiness and blandness that gives it an ultra clean look that has stood the test of time. I parked the other day next to my daughters daycare teachers 2010 Ford Explorer.

My landcruiser looks just as new if not newer than that ugly hunk of steel. Just to think my Landcruiser is 11 years older than that piece of junk also. I've got an eye for foreign vehicles and all American made vehicles just look like crap to me.

with stock tires and running boards it looks like a subaru forester XL. Now with a little larger tires, no running boards and some ground clearance under it, i think they look great.
Hence why it is the best.. I sold my loved Forester for my 98

is it still stock? can you tell them apart at night?

ps. i love my 100. She is a thing of beauty.

I think it looks great, second to the Troopy and 45, but it looks terrable with those decals on it and they will only get worse with age.

This.

I am biased because I used to have a 62, but to me the 60 and 62 are the finest looking vehicles to ever grace the roads. It was actually those boxy body styles that got me interested in Land Cruisers in the first place, before I knew anything about their reputation and mystique. I almost want to move to Australia just so I can own a 76 series GXL wagon, since they carry on that boxy style. The 60 and 70 series have what I call the "UN humanitarian" look, which is what I like.

That said, the 100 series is awesome too. And, for those who think the 100 series is bland, a few weeks ago, a lady came up to me at the car wash to ask me what kind of car I drive, which she described as "beautiful."

I still just can't get into the 55 series look.

It's not that ugly, just bland. I'd take a kijang over anything with a pentastar on it any day.

I agree that it looks better than than the 200, or any of it's contemporary competitors mentioned. I'm also leaning to favoring its appearance over the 80 series, and agree that it looks like a pumped up Subaru Forester. Nevertheless it's too big and looks too much like a generic modern vehicle. I greatly prefer the 55, 60 and 70 series wagons.

The 100 looks pretty bland stock, but decent lifted. I actually have always preferred the looks of the range rover - very sleek and modern, yet rugged looking. If the range rover wasn't so unreliable, I might have ended up with one of those. The LC200 front and sides look good, but that big 'minivan' a$$ kills the look.
I actually prefer my old lifted and armored 97 4runner's look to the 100 or 4th/5th gen 4runners.

Agree 100%

A couple years ago (100 series era), a (very wealthy) friend asked my opinion of the Range Rover vs. the Land Cruiser. I said "If Toyota or Honda made the Range Rover for Land Rover, I'd be driving one" I described the Range Rover as "rolling art" but like much art "... it's overpriced and just sits there"

Funny thing... He bought a new Sequoia and a new Porsche Turbo.

^^ I totally agree too. I really like the looks of the new RRs, but the fact that they keep you coming back for more (more $$$$$$$$ in repairs) keeps me from owning one. When we first looked at SUVs, I drove into a LR dealership and thought I was sold on a Disco II, but then we spoke to an owner in a parking lot, with the hood up and never looked at them again.

For me, I LOVE the FJ-45 troopy, second by the 80, then a modified 200 (LC only. I hate the back end of the 580!), then the 100, 60, 62, and lastly the 55. I am not into boxy too much.

Since I will probably never own a 45, I have purchased the two that I can own... the 200 may come sometime in the future... who knows...

yeah you can.. the Hundy looks like the fat kid who cant stop eating cake compared to my old Forester..oh and the wife doesnt hear me drive up the driveway or up the country roads (about a mile away) anymore... hahaha

the 100 is the Arnold to the Danny in comparisons.. the relation is kinda screwy but somehow they look like they had the same parents!!

to be honest , this is what i might have said 10 years ago ! but from your descriptions , i would say 200 for sure...

I dreamed for years of a 4runner until I sat in one... then my heart was broken as I am tall and do not like the idea of having a bar pressed against my skull

All of a sudden I was thrown into the landcruiser market, as I wanted a go anywhere sleep in it ultra reliable suv

my first impression was the us 80 -- massive and looked pretty good especially those alloy wheels and the toyota badge up front

I ended up with a 100, and feel the look is pretty neutral except the emblem color front and back are rediculous and the wheels look out of place.

I look forward to years of admiration... if I get through my dash problems... I've always had excellent taste in vehicles... the 100 look will age well as long as it is deblinged

as far as the fat kid goes, ya that's right... but he also drinks too much and requires two seats in newer airplanes... err I mean apartment parkades

love the 62 and 80, and would have gotten a new 76 troopy if it were available here. really didn't need all the extras on the new LCs.

having said that, i used my mid-life crisis to justify buying myself my first ever new vehicle and bought a 200. i really wasn't that thrilled with the looks initially, but wanted LC quality. 60,000 miles later, looking at the girl warms my heart and she is beautiful to me.

i think each generation LC grows on us as we come to know the amazing qualities of them...they all age VERY well.
