Sorry i know there is a good long thread about what fits. I know the E46 seats do well in the 60 but do they also fit a 80? I know the big challenge is that most seats are too tall. Anyone know if they are low enough to work in a 80?

not trying to be difficult, but too tall how?
There is a ton of head-room in these trucks.

As far as the seat-cushion to the floor distance, why not cut off the mounting hardware and swap it over?

I'd be more worried about width to make sure it fits between the B-Pillar and the Center Console.

It is not really head-room that is the issue it is viewing angle, which is fine at stock height seat, but not great for those of us over 6' tall with a taller seat. For example, if you are over 6' tall, go raise your seat to the highest position and drive for a day, you will see what I am talking about.

My Porsche boxster seat sit about 1" taller than stock and it is a very different view as my sight line is closer to the visor.

I have a set of power e46 seats that I plan to use on another 80 project car,and they are about as thick as my porsche seats.

Someone posted up pics of these installed in an 80, so someone out there should be able to give us a diminsion. Maybe height from front of seat to the visor is the best measurement when the back of the seat is so many inches from the steering wheel.

They work for me ;)

Golgo, no worries about your question. But 2fpower is saying what I am talking about. Basicly if you were sitting on a phone book it just kind of changes the driving position. I really like the factory position so I would rather not change it too much by raising it a bunch.

The seats I have looked at would be very complicated to cut and make them lower. Many have motors and parts that are as low as the rails.

For those of you that have used the e46 seats any chance you could snap a picture of the mounting brackets you fabbed up?

sounds like it depend on how tall you are.....

Installing BMW E46 Front Seats

Thanks for the link. I guess i could have just used the search function but...I guess i am too lazy.

The install looks straight forward. Not sure i am crazy about having to hammer the area flat for clearance of the seat.

i have seen 4 different seat installs locally, two mine, and all required beating the snot out of the inside corner. I had to hammer mine in so much, that I was scared the airbag was going to go off, so I pulled the battery cables.

The issue is that most seat tracks are toward the outer corners of the seat. If you want your seat centered on the steering wheel, and trust me you do want that, then most likely the inside track is going to be on top of that corner.

I talked to another member about this, and he was contiplating cutting out that stucture and reengineering it with something shorter. he ended up using the sledge method; however, I like this idea of cutting and making something else there.
