hi tanks in advance for help and ideas. I am gonna build a exhaust system for my fj40 and I have never done one before. The headers I have on the 5.3 liter vortec are 2.5 inch flanges. Should I go dual exhaust or 2 into 1? If I go 2 into 1 should I upsize pipe ? If so how large should I go.
Thanks again.

Looks like an easy way to go.:hillbilly:

I've done a couple of exhausts on 40s, but never on a 5.3 swap. So, I'm no help with routing. But, if you are doing it yourself, first decide how you want to run the exhaust. Then, figure out what bends you are going to need and order them up. Buy a couple of extra for screw ups. Or better yet, if you need a couple of 90s, order up a 180. Its cheaper. If you're in Sandy, I suggest using Columbia River Mandrel Bending out of St. Helens - www.mandrelbends.com. You can order everything you need for your exhaust from them. You can run down and pick up your order rather than paying shipping costs.

As an example, I put the following exhaust on my 71 F engine using fj62 manifolds. I bought the flanges, copper flange gaskets, bends and collector from CRMB.

I used copper Permatex on the gaskets and coated everything down to the collector in VHT paint. No leaks.

Good luck and post up some pics when you're done.
