Any good threads on this?
Changing plugs and wires after P0301, may as well dizzy do.

Special tools required?
Do's and Don'ts?
Change in-place I assume.

Parts:
Cap
Cap screw
Rotor
Rotor packing
Rotor screw

Is that right?

Thanks!

Change the dizzy O-ring while you are at it.

Sounds great in theory.

If he's here asking how to change a distributor cap and rotor, he's not ready to pull the distributor and possibly screw with his timing.

Do you have a FSM?
Do a search for "manual at a hell of a price" and download one for YOUR truck. Read an follow directions.

Tools needed:
8mm socket (preferably 6 point)
1/4" drive extension, 6" long
1/4" drive ratchet

Buy the parts, look them over, then determine how to install.

This is one of the simplest things to do. If you mastered the spark plugs, you'll get this.

That means removing the dizzy. Hoping to avoid that...

It's not difficult and worth it if there are any leaks. Plus it gives you a chance to adjust the timing which needs to be done now and then.

You can do it now or you can do it later, but eventually you're going to replace the dizzy o-ring. It's easy!

What the hell is a dizzy o ring?
It's the O-Ring seal where the distributor penetrates the head on the 1FZ-FE.

Dizzy=distributor

This is the dizzy o ring.

Takes 10 minutes to change.

No timing light, no wheels; just want to get rolling after P0301. So later it is. But I'll order an o-ring to have on-hand.

Thanks to all for that tip!

When you do your distributor cap, also get a new gasket that seals the cap to the housing. You can see it laying upside down in the picture posted by @Kaninja. This is NOT the O-ring.

Your current one is likely oil-soaked and will be misshapen.

Its my cranial cavity’s ability to appreciate and understand the unknown. :rimshot:.
Keep asking questions that’s why we are here!

I guess that's what it's called. I'm not positive. Not a very clear picture. I cannot find my receipt or quote from when I did mine last.
Fingers crossed!
