Update!!
Just back from about a 450 Mile trip with a 4.7K resistor ... Starts and stops from highway speeds (kids lunch and pee breaks), and NO CEL. Temps ranged from -30*C to -48*C. Truck is running well!!

I bought a connector, and joined my vac lines, then put a short loop by the egr, so its not functioning!!

That is odd, I recenctly purchased this part from my dealer used it on my sons 94 p/u OBDI and it seems to be working fine. Here is a pic of the labels that were on the bag.

Discontinued? but some dealers still have in stock? None in the state of Hawaii.
4.5k resistor here and haven't had a CEL come back in over 600 miles.

So, are you planning on removing the temp sensor and plugging up the hole? Otherwise, the inspector may notice the dangling connector!
Haven't given much thought to removing the temp sensor, plus no inspectors here.

Is this a Radio Shack part? If so, what is wattage? Probably any watt will work since not much load is going through the resistor. A higher wattage probably makes it easier to handle and install?

Thanks to all yall on this thread... I successfully deactivated the egr mod. Now I'm working on plugging this temp sensor and have been unable to find the necessary parts to fill it with. Can any of yall tell me the specific parts that I need to get to make this sensor satisfied?

Yes it's a RS part. $0.99 for a card of five. They are 1/2 watt resistors.

Hey there EGR dudes... hoping one of you has a suggestion for me. I failed my smog test today.
CO measured 14.3325, limit 15.0000 (barely passed)
NOx measured 3.5782, limit 3.5000 (failed)
The documentation suggests that high NOx could be a faulty EGR system. I have been running with the temp sensor wired shorted so it's a solid connection there, bypassing the sensor (and no CEL). I also have the Landtank MAF mod, if that matters. All the EGR stuff is still on the truck, I haven't messed with anything else.
Only other info to toss out there is my 80 has also been virtually dormant for a month or so- our daughter moved up in car seats, so the Taco has become the kid hauler.. which left only 2 days/week that I could take the 80 to work, which usually turned into one day. Then a little over two weeks ago I got a ticket in the 80 for expired registration, they must have sent the renewal to my old address and I never even thought to check the license plate so rather than risk another ticket, I have been just taking the truck until I had time to mess with the 80.
Yesterday I finally made time to swap small tires onto the 80 so I could go to the emissions place, had been a solid two weeks since the 80 was even started. I drove it around for 10 minutes last night, then to work this morning, then over to the emissions place. I am wondering if I just drove it a little more would that warm things up enough to pass.. or do I need to do something more serious here, like actually fix the system I've attempted to bypass. I did this "mod" based on this discussion, and because I had a P0401 which was diagnosed to be a faulty temp sensor. So at the time, bypassing said sensor seemed like a win-win.
I will read up more on this thread from home tonight, but at the onset it doesn't sound like bypassing this temp sensor is contributing to my high CO and NOx readings. Does anyone agree/disagree with that?

I don't think you've been driving it enough. Get it good and warmed up before you run the test.
I followed all the instructions from this thread. After around 1k miles I got a CEL. I reset it. Didnt come up again for a couple hundred miles, but CEL did come back on. I've got 4.7k resistor in temp sensor and egr hoses looped to disconnect it. Scanner's reading P0402 code. Any ideas???

It thinks the temp is too high. The resistor may be too higher of a value compared to ambient, you could try a lower one (such as the 1k resistor).
I reset the CEL after the 2nd time it came on reading p0402. it hadnt come back on over 200 miles. I took it off roading today and as soon as I put it in 4low CEL came on w P0402 again. so lower resistor??
I simply have the resistor loose in the metal connector pieces. but if the resistor weren't doing its "resistor" job then the code would be reading P0401 right, ebagg?

No. If it's not well connected you are creating more resistance (higher than 4.7k) or 100% resistance (no current at all going through, IE: broken connection). In both those cases the ECU will think the temp is through the roof, which will throw the P0402.
So where do we stand on this with the OBD ll ? Still causing issues?
