I purchased a Knuckle Rebuild Kit from JTOutfitters and am now installing the bearing races. I noticed that the JTO races are larger than my old races (see attached picture).

I called JTOutfitters to confirm whether or not this difference in size is okay/intended and they said it's not a problem and is supposed to be that way.

I'm checking in here with Mud to get confirmation that the size difference is not going to be a problem. For clarity, the JTO race does, in fact, fit inside the axle housing, it's just that the JTO race is taller than the OEM race.

Note: The part numbers that are stamped on the actual races are:

OEM: 303030
JTO: 30303 (Note the missing "0")

Not sure if those will work or not. I got mine from Kurt from cruiser outfitters and they were the same as the oem races(if I remember correctly). You might want to call him to see what he says. He a very helpfull guy. See if you can return those and order the kit from CO's. Just a thought. Good luck

The OEM number is 30303D. The main difference is the angle of the race and rollers.

Aren't the JTO races and bearings the Timken (or similar) ones that have a different angle as Pin-Head states? The Timken ones should work fine as long as they used as a pair of bearing/race. Though there is some belief they might perform differently that the stock Koyos due to change in the angle. YMMV

The difference is the direction in which they are designed to bear load. The one on the right carries load in the direction perpendicular to the axis of the bearing, like when used as a wheel bearing. The one on the left bears load in the same direction as the bearing axis. This is the one you want for a knuckle bearing. They will fail more quickly when used in the improper direction.

Thanks Jalbao & Pinhead

Up until now I didn't know taper-roller bearings could be bought with different race-angles for those different applications :o

(Lucky I've never replaced my knuckle bearings or I'd have probably got it wrong.)

PS. I've pinched a copy of your pic Jalbao so I'm able to warn others in the future now.
