Also I want to correct an earlier statement. The 1VD is not made by Hino. It's the first Toyota-made engine.

Toyota will never bring the diesel in. Never. I don't think you understand that it's not the vehicle. It's already got 99% of US safety specs. It's the support that would have to come with it. Inventory, training techs, hiring new techs, tools.

It just won't happen.
Toyota will do it if they feel it's worth it. Training techs and tools they would factor in just as they did when they introduced hybrids. They come out with new models all the time that require some sort of new training or specialized tools. I think Toyota is not convinced diesels will be a hit in the usa, so they don't sell them in the usa.

Oh, okay. I was under the impression Hino manufactured the Diesel engines used in Toyota vehicles. Additionally I read that the 1VD is the first V8 Diesel engine produced by Toyota. However I see my mistake in forgetting the "V8" part during my memory recall. More information on the specifics of my error would be nice.

In Europe LC 200 was available only with 1VD-FTV 4.5 litre (no petrol engines in Europe). It`s a japanese diesel, available in LC since 2008 (?). Very good and reliable engine, unfortunately his flaws were made because of ecology - DPF, sensitive to fuel quality injectors etc etc. Not so reliable as petrol.
Also in 2015 because of 1VD-FTV LC 200 was banned from European market (CO2 emissions). Toyota backed up, and stopped selling LC200 in Europe for over a year. Now in 2017 LC 200 is back with petrol 4.6. Diesel won`t be available anymore in Europe. Only GCC, Africa and Australia.

Toyotas Europe's home site is saying the V8 diesel is available along with the V6 petrol

If you stated that the 1VD-FTV is the first Toyota diesel V8, you would be correct. ;)

In-line 6 diesels and petrol engines have historically been manufactured by Toyoda Industries.

4 cylinder diesels and petrol engines for the Land Cruiser line have had a number of different manufacturers.

I've seen that info about diesel. Fortunately I was last week in Toyota and asked about new LC. They said only petrol is available in Europe 2017. Maybe They were mistaken...

Check out the pictures, no crawl controls, old school nav. I personally think we have the best of the best in the USA. The 5.7 is an incredible engine. If you are worried about fuel consumption a cruiser is not your friend.

I don't disagree that the 5.7 is great. But, in my opinion, diesel is best for dig trucks. I also feel that The pacific (Japan, Australia, etc) has the best 200 variant with the Middle East being second.

I am just glad that we are still able to get a real land cruiser in the USA. It is a world platform truck and is basically the same all over the world. With the major exception being the two engines we can not get (petrol 4.6 and the 4.5 diesel).

Someone correct me if I am wrong , but the Lexus GX460 uses the 4.6.

Thus the 460 tag...

That's odd ,because whenever something is about to be discontinued, they are pretty quick to get it off their homepage

While I too am reluctant to say "never"' it's not happening anytime soon. Last year myself and other LC industry insiders sat on a round table with the Cheif LC engineer and product planners from Toyota USA to discuss this exact subject. Between the volatility of the CAFE and EPA standards, we won't be seeing a diesel anytime soon. My guess is that the next Series of wagon LC we see in the U.S. will sport a turbo'd V6.

Did you ask when the 200 series is going to get a successor?

2018,19,20???
