Wonder if this will push Toyota to bet Nissan to the punch and offer some HD Tundras??

Sure yes .. they ( Toyota ) don't gonna loose this batle ..

going back to the hybrid issue... don't know if its posted yet but I spoke with a few oil refinery gurus, and they said that europe and japan already had 50mpg + diesels long before we had hybrid technology. VW diesel beetle comes to mind. And that toyota was just waiting to get a return in there hybrid investment before bring in diesels... Now I got pretty pissed when I hear this ...but then realized that we have more newer cars on the road per capita than any other country..? just a though.

If it weren't for the US EPA, there probably wouldn't be petrol-electric hybrids.

Mind you, if the GM engineers had done a better job of those early diesels, the US would also be in a better position.

This is great news!!! Anyone wanna buy my '08 LC200 5.7L V8 Gas powered beast? I'll need room for my '09 Twin Turbo V8 Diesel LC200. There is no way my wife will let me have two.

On another note, I think I almost gave her a heart attack when I said I may be getting rid of our Land Cruiser. I really hope this comes to Canada. Its about time we get something that the Americans don't. This has always been a small neglected market for autos and trucks. It's about FRIGGIN time!!!

Wow, wow......I hope this turns out to be true !! I'll believe it when I see it though.... :hhmm:

Man, this thread is a total tease..hopefully they will refresh the exterior (i.e. less Highlander/LX570 Lexus looking) when they (if they) release this beast!

Changed the angular brackets to square, will see if it works.

Diesel News from Toyota:

"Industry sources told Inside Line that Toyota engineers have been working on at least two variations of the new clean-diesel engine, including the 4.5-liter unit and a larger 7.0-liter V8 that would dwarf the company's 5.7-liter gasoline V8.

The 7.0-liter V8 diesel has been engineered as the workhorse unit in a new heavy-duty edition of the Tundra pickup that's tentatively slated for production in 2011-'12. The heavy-duty Tundra would be aimed primarily at commercial users, as well as consumers who need to tow boats, campers and horse trailers, and would compete with similar offerings from Chevrolet, Dodge, Ford and GMC. Edit; oops, looks like someone already asked the question

Everyone should let Toyota know about our desire to see a diesel LC in the USA.

I found a Contact Us link where you can "E-mail" Toyota. I selected the "I would like to tell you about my experience with...", "Vehicle", "Future Models" options and told them why I thought a diesel LC in the USA would be something I would purchase.

Here is the link:

G'Day. I'm running a 2009 TTDV8 LandCruiser wagon as a work vehicle in North Queensland, Australia. We have a fleet of LandCruisers
(4x 100 Series, 6x 200 Series, 6x 120 (Prado)Series & 1x 75 Series) and Nissan Patrols (4 x GU utes).
There's a fair mixture of Diesel and Petrols in the fleet but we have gone with the TTDV8 wagons recently for the towing capabilities.

We've got a large trailer that we load up for Agricultural Field Days around the country that I tow for about 6 months of the year.
My last work truck was the 100 Series V8 petrol. Towing the trailer from home to a place called Gunnedah (1800 km) last year I averaged 37L/100km
- absolutely criminal figures. This year with the TTDV8 and a bit more weight (about 6.8T AGM) I averaged 22L/100km for the same trip.
The TTDV8 is about $10K dearer to buy here initially but with the kays I rack up, those kinds of figures help to justify the added expense.

Plus that push in the back when the turbos get going is pretty damn cool......:D

With new snorkel - only just got it back today

The important bit....

Where are you getting this $10K figure from as you cannot get the 5.7 petrol in AU?

That figure comes from the premium of the diesel over the 2UZ gas engine, which they do get.

K, but no one is arguing the difference of the 4.7 petrol vs. 4.5 diesel. Diesel wins hands down between those two. What's still up for grabs is the first place winner between the 5.7 petrol and the 4.5 diesel. No two contries sell both side-by-side, so it's difficult to ascertain a price difference.
