Update , my inter cooler came from Benzforce , since I’m running a big turbo and more power , Intercooler is a must I wouldn’t run like that without it .

I was working to modify my stock intake manifold , I was looking at the early om617 non turbo intake would be a perfect fit but it’s gonna take some time to find one , so I cut a round 2 1/2 hole and weld the 2 1/2 inch aluminum tubing after grind it off to smooth it down and paint it gray .

The turbo makes a lot of power i have no problem keeping up with cars ahead and still capable , but the intercooler makes more power , the motor runs a lot cooler after is all done , men I can tell right away it gain at least 40 to 50 more horsepower it’s not a sleeper but boy it’s fast ! I’m little worried because my transmission is not gonna like it , it’s got a lot of torque but we’ll see..

Air filter?

No Not yet , i can’t resist driving it and spew a lot of black smoke in front of other big dog Diesel truck , I just put a screen in front of the turbo compressor just to keep it free from any debris, but I’m going to make a custom tubing line that’s going to be connected to my snorkel and I have the air filter on top of the snorkel ..

I have to trim my grill as you can see looks a lot better without the inside fin , motor runs very good glad this thing turn out great , temperature wise is below halfway , before I got so sick and tired of being blown away by Toyota Taco..s and Heeps but that was then , not anymore buddy...

It’s been a while since I post, update the om617 were amazing I never have any problem with my daily driver i don’t ever know how many thousands mile I put into it anyway lots of power and love it . It’s been a while since I been planning to swap my G transmission to a mid 90s 4Runner or r150 after gathering all the parts that I need I finally got time to do the swap despite of this coved19 going on I been so busy working every day thanks as an essential workers. Here we go time to pull the motor out again it didn’t take long after 4hrs of wrenching the old om617 is out again .

As you can see comparison between G transmission and r150 the r150 is much heavier and 1 inch shorter .

Engine and r150 transmission is finally in , a lot of guys I heard they’re having a hard time how to convert the electronic speedometer sending unit to mechanical unit , well it’s very simple and straight forward. Remove the locking pin and the gear slide out , and install to the mechanical housing I order mine from YotaShop for 35 bucks here it is .

The other issue is the r150 shifter is farther back bout 2inches I think its better this way shifter is much closer to me . so had to cut 4inch for the transfer case shifter . I also slight modified my cross member and it’s just like how it was .. the reverse sensor of g52 transmission and r150 is almost the same except the g52 is a longer sleeve so modified by cutting the sleeve to match the r150 and there it is.

Looking good. I haven’t looked into it, but what is the difference in gearing between the r150 the the previous trans? How does the r150 feel?

trying to button up everything back together , I have to move the shifter console 4 inches back fabricating the mounting point for the shifter cover , and making a sheet metal plate to cover the front opening because have to move it 4 inch back but the best part is the shifter is much much easier it’s so close to me just like car I don’t have to reach over pretty cool! The gearing as far as I know better than the previous transmission, r150f it has a higher first gear throughout, the previous one has a top speed 85 mph on the cluster but the r150f is 110 MPH . Seems like the new transmission much smoother compare , and less vibration I like it very happy with the results.. how’s yours Did you start already ?

My truck project keeps getting pushed further and further back on the list. Too many house projects that need to be completed and I don’t have time to work on the truck. I have everything for it, just no time to do it.

I hear you been there before glad my house is done and was able to perform all the work that I need to complete my project..

Wow @Isaac Peter! I just read through your whole build thread. What a cool truck! Fantastic job!

Do you like the way the truck runs after installing the intercooler? How do you like the Holset HX30?

hx30 is awesome I like the loud whistle sound of the turbo , the intercooler makes a lot difference, engine runs cooler and make even more power , when it was 22r I can’t even break a minimum 60mph speed limit , had to downshift to 3rd and the motor is in the breaking point I’m not saying 22r is bad motor but 22r is a good engine but when it comes to power , just like apple and orange..

It’s been little while since completed my om617 conversion and it’s been lot of fun but I promise the om617 is one hell of a motor and she never let me down , but I always have a weakness on OM606 This is the reason why I decided to go another route, seems like impossible to do this swap , thanks to this thread for all the info that makes me go ahead and here we go , I purchase a salvage 87 Mercedes-Benz with om603 that has a mechanical injector , and a om606 motor low miles from New Jersey to swap the electronic to mechanical Injector. I’m going to use the same transmission the r150 and but 3.4 flywheel is a better choice. this is where I’m at the moment .

I have seen lots of 2jz conversion on first and second Gen truck and both are the same straight , inline 6 so it shouldn’t be that much of a problem, my plan is I’m going to build this motor and send my IP pump to Benzforce to rebuild the 603 IP and install a 7.5 Deiselmeken elements, this motor is capable over 600hp without internal mods , my plan hope I can get at least 500 HP at the ball park we’ll see .
