Cranked out a 9.75 miler this morning. Fastest pace of the season! I made the loop a bit shorter, as some pesky beavers are flooding out a couple portions. Normally, I don’t mind walking through knee high water, but this morning was too chilly to ride with wet socks for half an hour.

Today marks one month since my crash/injuries, so NO I DID NOT RIDE TODAY. I still check this thread daily and really enjoy seeing all of your adventures!

My hip is healing up nicely and yesterday I was cleared to go up stairs - so excited to sleep in a bed and take a shower! Ortho says it'll be at least another month before I can even get on a stationary bike, and probably a few weeks more to go for a normal ride. Really bummed as this is prime riding season here (imho).

Ribs are good. Shoulder, not so much, but it is slowly improving.

Following orders so I hopefully have no lingering effects from this - giving up some riding now to heal properly and not be hobbled later is a fair trade-off.

Rode 13.6 miles in the local woods this morning. Bright, clear, sunny day. In the woods, though, some serious dappling which really made it hard to distinguish trail features.

100 yards into the woods, nearly bonked a deer on the trail. Both of us looking at each other trying to figure out what’s going on.

I used to wax the chain: 100% best chain lube, imo. Some said it added like 2 seconds to a 40K TT () but for me no complaints other than 1) it was a pain in the ass to do, and 2) the chain seemed to get noisier sooner than with a liquid lube.

Ya, I hear ya. Speed is the least of my concerns but the hassle of it all was my initial misgiving. I bought into the Silca system (on sale) though and have to say they make it pretty easy. With quick links and a second chain waxed it's pretty easy to swap out a chain. The only thing I don't like is Silca's formula for cleaning a dirty, waxed chain. Sort of expensive and I haven't figured out a good coffee filter to filter out the dirt and put the "good stuff" back into the bottle. Using their super secret lube between changing the chains seems to work well. I did try their Synergetic wet lube and have to say it is much better than other wet or dry lubes I tried. I'll keep using that on my other ride.

Brutal heat day on the borderlands but had to get a recon of my Arizona Trail section that I steward.

It was hot. It was 90* when we started and topped out at 101*

Jenna and I both bonked hard with about 12 hard miles of single-track still to go. We found a good mesquite grove and we both plopped down, drank a s*** ton of water (what we had left), and napped for 1.5hrs.

Then we woke up and utilized a short cut on a FR to get back to Patagonia. Phew.

Please try beef tallow. Seed oils are bad for your bikes health. JK

I was short on time and not feeling it so cut the local new go to a bit short.

Then stopped in the MW Expo and drooled all over this stage 2 turbo. He is claiming 400+hp and 600 ft lb….. I may just stick with the brick after all.

Man, and I was all bummed it was a humid 63 degrees out on my ride… not sure how you do it.

In another thread I was talking about my waistpack being loose at the end of a ride, like an inch and a half too big. That sounds like an exaggeration, but I haven't ridden in temps below 90 since the end of March, and usually it's pushing 100.

Beno & Jenna did the right thing. Bag it and pick it up later (wait, that sounds like hikers and their dog poop). It only takes 5 - 10 minutes to go from feeling like you ought to stop until you're in the kind of serious trouble that'll cost you for weeks. Or worse.

Totally. We stopped and had our lunch about 15 miles in and felt good.

Then started on a really tough section of 3-4 miles and lots of climbing and with no shade we got toasted super quick.

We both felt it immediately.

It was smart to stop, find shade and rest it off. My heart rate was well over 160bpm for a good 30 mins. Took awhile to bring it down.

Cool, dry air this morning. Finally!! Cranked out 8.25 miles through the woods. Almost no one out there as summer is basically over. School starts tomorrow, so even better for the next few months.

Felt good and strong. Really pushed through the rocks, roots and twisties.

28mph? Were you on a Ducati Scrambler?

That speed would translate to a 53:30 40k TT, which was the standard distance when I was doing things intentionally that made me puke on a bike. That would have been a pretty solid time (top 5-10) for a pro/1/2 race.

Current distance is 32.3k (20.1 miles) which would have given you a time of 43 mins and small change. Current USA champ is an Ineos Gren pro with a time of 39:03. So I say puke it out and call yourself a BEAST.
