Brutal ride today…. Over a 100* all day.

Bonked hard near the end and had to basically walk into town due to my muscle spasms. Entire body. First real overwhelming bonk.

Probably got some good heat exhaustion too. Chills/high heart rate. It was just a damn tough day to battle 19.1% climbs…. 🤯🤯

You have my respect. Nice ride.

One bonk is your last bonk. Gotta eat well before the ride, and as you get older, regularly on the ride. For me, every 30-40 minutes, some food and a swig of Gatorade.

When younger, I could ride 2 hours race pace, no stopping for nothing. Not now…

Your friend looks quite relaxed, as in no bonk today, Mister.

Yeah, I generally do a good job pre-watering and eating before a big ride, but I won the Bike Darwin Award yesterday. Really underestimated the heat and climbing we had to do.

Blaire is a sponsored pro. She don't bonk.

How do we feel about virtual rides around here? Started up another training block today in Zwift.

When it’s really hot in the summer here in the ATX, I do a lot of my quality training on Trainer Road. I bought a smart trainer (Wahoo KICKR) when I had hip surgery to help with recovery, and it completely changed my mindset about trainers. It will never be the same, but the opportunity for quality training time is top notch.

anyone can bonk, even the pros. I've seen it many times and remember Floyd's epic fail. It's a fine line to balance max effort without falling off the cliff.

I remember my last bonk. Fitchburg, Ma criterium 1979. Never again. One and only. I was so bonked, two woman riders had to push behind on the seat post to keep me moving.

Dang,

Emigration Canyon ride last night. 99 degrees at the start, but on the way down the canyon hit some cool and even "cold" spots. 83 at the end. Go figure.

cooler day here (25C) so went for a family ride. my circus of five bikes and a trail a long (weehoo) did 16km of gravel to a near by lake for a swim. my 15 year old asked if we could ride home so i said sure. you set the pace. well he took off like a bat out of hell and i figured he’ll make 5km before we call for a ride. he did the whole 16km back at that pace and nearly killed me!! i honestly was so impressed but i dont think ill be able to ride with him long before he out paces me. it was a great ride!!

Damn kids lol... My kid was outpacing me by quite a bit going up but I still have him on the downhill!!

Another hot ride with temps over 100* the entire time. Went back to last week’s watering hole with my friend Sean… but this time made it into a loop.

No bonking today!

Hat’s off to you! 100*F weather? I would never be out in that! I know it’s a dry heat, but no gracias.

Still hot here. Finished the ride at 86*F with dew points still in the 70s. ☹️

Despite that, hazy, not much sun, so I felt great the whole ride. Pushing the pace and railing the corners.

If we finally get a break in the weather, I’ll do a long ride. Today, my local 8.25 miler.

Alright, who wants to organize a Mud group ride?

I’m in.

I’d be happy to organize for a Southern AZ weekend/3-day adventure ride kind of thing for the fall-spring time period: October - April.

Gravel bikes/hardtails/single speeds. There isn’t much for the hardcore full-sus guys doing jumps and enduro/downhill kind of thing down here in SoAZ. Sedona and the stuff farther north is there for those folks.
