update on the body shop ;)

Stopped by today and they have not really done anything from when i checked in on monday :(

Gonna have to leave them be until they make some progress i guess.

So next steps are rebuilding the fuel pump and installing...

Then once the oil canister gets back from the powder coater, install that...

then wait for body stuff :D

Have a new project for work starting monday anyway for about a month.
Hopefully when it is done the body will be painted and ready :D

Did you give the body shop any coin yet?

Maybe you can entice them to step it up a bit with a weekly, or performance payment plan???

the starter and cast carb base is green :D

how many brass pieces do you need.

Think you are going to be able to make the primer handle?

Nice :D

was thinking about getting the green and painting it when i pull the starter :D

I need 2 sets of the parts i circled in this image ( 2 female nuts and 2 flange connectors )
I have 6 of the other bits circled to the left in the image, so good there :D

I paid up for the blasting and primer etc.

Best not to pay more until work is done i think :D

They are just busy with insurance work likely

Just gonna have to wait :D

I'm with you on that :D.

I have paid for mine in instalments over a fair period of time but I was in no hurry and know the owner who gets his blokes to work on it when thy are quiet.

But frustrating as when you turn up every week and is sitting in the same spot.

If I was in more of a rush - which I am now - I just put the word on him and he is giving me a time frame.

Cheers Dobster

Maybe not, but I would mention that you are ready to cover whatever work they do, as quickly as it gets done...might give them incentive to get it finished a little faster!

They know i am good for it :D

They actually told me a body shop that takes you money up front has less incentive to do the work. I just want them to do a great job. So i am gonna be patient :D

it is the waiting game now hehe :D
I will just dial in little details on the motor until it is ready!

ok pulled the pumps apart.
Most parts a swappable, aside from the diaphragm metal bit where it connects with the lever in the base of the pump ( photo 3 )

See

The connectors are dif ( how they hook in the lower mechanism...

So the options are to use the old one...

or

Dremel and drill and die the tops and reassemble like the video...

I did put the pump together with the old diaphragm, and it pumped fine...
( hose and a bucket of water test )
( the top housing was facing the wrong direction when i took it apart )

So i dunno if i should use the old diaphragm, or try to take apart and refashion and swap the rubber bits of the diaphragm.

meh

:D

you wrote that the pump works fine, so I would not rebuild it (don`t touch a running system ;)
do it in the future when it`s necessary ) would use the old diagraph .

Not so important ;) but original Toyota fuel hoses looked like this

huh.. I didn't realize the diaphram connectors would be different. I would put the old one back in and run try it. I don't know the history of it but I never ran is so i don't know the condition.

Sweet, Yeah my instincts went to running it as is and rebuilding later too, jsut wanted confirmation :D

I guess the big thing is torquing the screws done so it forms a proper seal :D

Yeah it actually works that way because of the hand primer :) ( the diaphragm connector that is )
Seems way more secure too.
The new ones just push against the metal, the old one interlocks.
They internal lever also travels in a different direction on input.

I think i just clean the hell out of the housing and put it back together.
And just keep an eagle eye on it when I get everything running :D
Thanks again for the pump man, super excited to get this back to stock condition.
:D

I spent Saturday afternoon reading your build-GREAT job. I like the OEM stock look you are doing. Check out ebay #150379781149. It is an antique heater of 1962 vintage-thought you may be interested. I am looking forward to seeing the completion of your truck. Good luck with your project.:cheers:Brendon
