Camping in the keys...looking for some local input

looking to do some road tripping with the family with the cruiser/boat.

destination...the keys. Want to do some primitive camping in all the islands between the mainland and the end of the keys.

want to park at a marina and head out to one of the endless islands and camp for a week or so.

not sure what is/isn't legal. Some lakes here you can camp on the beach/have fires others you better prepare for a huge fine if caught.

If anyone can give me some insight for where to go/look i'd be super appreciative.

17 ft bass/skier boat
probably a canoe or kayak for fishing and crabbing

Fellow mudders - I'm a newbie actively searching for an FZJ80 to join the 'maddness'... :)

Found this one in Kissimmee, FL - so if anyone is in the area would love to hear from you if you could scout it out for me and send some reconn my way. Here is the ad:

If you're willing to do this for a nominal fee let me know what you require.

Thanks -

Spoke to the owner yesterday and he still has it. Have any of you guys seen it in person? Story is he had it repainted then someone took a joyride and ran it through a barbed wire fence and scratched it up. He has the bumpers to go back on, but needs windshield and back glass.

2011 suggestions please

Yesterday was an outstanding day for FLCA! We mapped out an entire year of events sure to get everyone's attention. Thanks for your invaluable thoughts and ideas to keep our club active, interesting, educational, and fun. Something for all to look forward to each and every month of 2011. Details will be posted up soon.

Lights...Camera...Action...let the Tech session begin! Wow! My truck was attacked by a group of knowledgeable, cooperative, wrench slinging maniacs! In short order everything from the frame down was out from under the truck and spread about getting pulled, heated, beaten, cut, ground, repaired, replaced, tweaked and turned. Talk about knowing what your doing...not even a hesitant moment slowed down the progress. Stubborn, rusted parts and pieces were attacked with fury while placement and alignment were handled with great finesse. My respect for this knowledge and action is elevated beyond my wildest imagination! Special fabrication necessary...not an issue...out comes the torch, cut off tool, and within minutes the part needed is in place...awesome! What? They are already rolling the front axle assembly back under my truck! And shortly thereafter the rear! No arguments, actions attacked with mutual coordination, team work at it's finest! This is hard work. Pieces are heavy. Safety is paramount. Everyone's concern is there. The mission is entirely successful. It's a beautiful collaboration.
Thanks to all for being such an important part of my life...it means a great deal to me.

The help a member out program similar to the Low Country guys would be neat. The hard part is getting people involved. We are also scattered out over hundreds of miles which complicates stuff a bit. Between a few members we have most everything one would need to fabricate anything. The only thing needed would be raw materials.

Excellent suggestion! Like the South Carolina "Hamom" events. This can happen.

We are spread out over a lot of miles and I hope we can have at least one event in the "deep south" and maybe one up north. I've heard Eglin AFB is a really fun place to ride and camp on the beach. Would be great to meet our northern brethren somewhere in their neck of the woods.

Okaloacoochee Slough STATE FOREST DEPENDING ON WEATHER THEY HAVE SOME NICE TRAILS MUST BE STREET LEGAL REGISTERED VEHICILE LOCATED IN BETWEEN LABELLE AND IMMOKALEE FL OF SR 29:steer:

We'll be sure and discuss this one. Most of us have street legal vehicles. I see they have camping available...a much needed service for our members from the north. Are you familiar with the Babcock-Webb Wildlife Management Area? I have it on the list of possibilities for run and camp out in SW Florida. We would like to spread our activities around the state if possible and need input especially from the southern areas of the state. Thanks for your help.

"The 20th GSMTR" Golden Mountain 2011

May 16-22, 2011

This year will be a big one for the event as it will be the 20th year GSMTR has been going. We are looking to get all the clubs out for this one. It's going to be a big one. We are capping the event at 200 vehicles this year.

We are also letting clubs cook a meal during the event if they would like. As well they can sell merchandise that day. All proceeds would go to your club or maybe help offset expenses in coming up here.

Registration starts in the next week or so.

Check the website for details.

If you change your mind a little and want to stay on one of the main keys, the Sugarloaf KOA has been a favorite of mine. They have tent sites, a boat ramp, bait shop, fuel dock. 27 miles from KW.

If you go down the road next to the campground to the burned out bridge, you can get away from people. Check out google maps.

Was a great time every time I've stayed there. Years ago now.

Making me envious. Enjoy.

man super jealous. been trying to find time to make a similar trip. Ill be interested to see this thread progress(hope to see it progress)

I've got a cousin and two friends that have a place down there...I could easily find myself living there forever as a member of the conch republic

You ought to check with Steve when he gets back in a week. My understanding he is camping for 10 days down there.
