What exhaust would yall recommend for an F engine if im lookin for a deep throughty sound?

Pm Upstate Cruiser member steenh and ask what hes using, sounds great and just like what your looking for.

I ran a flowmaster 40 series on my 2f for a few years. Sounded very deep and throaty below 2500 rpm or so. Above that it was excessively loud and quite annoying. I run a regular $20 thrush turbo muffler now that still sounds pretty deep at idle, but it's pretty quiet.

the PO put a cherry bomb on mine. I wanted to take it out since it was a cherry bomb but I have come to really like the sounds. People always think I am running a V8. Kinda funny when I say it is an F motor.

I had dual 3-into-1 headers and dual 2" exhaust with 2 cherry bombs on each pipe. Mine always reminded me of an old 240z.

I went to a manifold (thermal reactor) and with just the flange it wasn't so loud I was worried about getting pulled over on the way to the exhaust shop 25 miles away.

Now I have a single 2" exhaust with two old cherry bombs and it sounds like what I would expect from a stocker.

What does this have to do with throaty? I don't know. I've never heard a flowmaster that I liked.

Header, Flowmaster, 2.5" pipe, Mild build, RV cam...gets mistaken for a V8 (at idle)

I run my F with a 2.25" pipe, stock manifold. I had a cheap turbo muffler on it for years and it was about the quietest cruiser I heard. When the pipe rotted off I switched to a stainless flowmaster 50 series. It has a deeper tone but is not nearly as loud as the 40series flowmasters I have heard. And it isn't any louder at highway speeds (at least I don't hear it over the gear whine). But nobaody has ever mistaken my truck for having a V8:flipoff2:.

The best my F has ever sounded, was when I tore off my muffler at Tellico. I was idling through some rocks when my exhaust instantly went from its normal little buzz to a deep, nasty, and LOUD idle. It sounded awesome until I actually hit the gas. Then it just sounded like a 30 year old straight six with no muffler. I've currently got a header, 2.5in pipe going through a Flowmaster. It's not awe-inspiring, but it doesn't buzz like it did with the TurboII muffler that the PO had on it.

My 2F run with a 6 to 1 MAF headers, a 2.5" exhaust and a dynomax ultra flow, sound like a V8 at idle and like a 2JZ at 3000 rpm:D

I run a 2f with 2.5" from the 3-1 header collector back with a turbo muffler and 2.5" behind the muffler turned downward 1/2 way between the rear axle and the rear bumper. No other engine mods. Get's mistaken for a V-8 also. Real throaty sound from 1000-1500 and pretty smooth at higher rpms.

I have a 2F with man-a-fre 6-1 header. 2.5" exhaust and a magnaflow muffler.
when I first had the magnaflow installed, it sounded tinney... Like a rice racer. Then either I got used to it or the baffling in the muffler 'wore in'.
Now it sounds mean.
There is nothing like the growl of a healthy I6.

Exhaust

A coffee can with holes poked in it and stuffed with fiberglass insulation:hillbilly:

2" 1 chamber:hillbilly:

I've got a 6 to 1 running into a cherry bomb and I think it sounds great.

I'm a fan of the 40 series Flowmaster single inlet w/2 exits ..(camaro style).......its got that "bad boy" sound to it.....:D

I have the Magnaflow too. Somewhat quieter than Flowmasters.

I have had good luck with flowmaster. I wonder what the best diameter of exhaust pipe is ideal for an engine of that size. Maybe less than 2.5?

Header, 2 1/2" exhaust, and a Magnaflow, most mistake it for a V-8 at idle , at speed it sounds pretty good finally but at first it sounded like a runaway forklift:cool:
