What have you done to stop rust on a 40? If I have surface rust in the rear that has not started to eat through, what is the best approach to dealing with it without going to a body shop.. I want to keep cost down yet make sure no more damage is done to the truck. Ideas??

I just dealt with a good deal of surface rust under my 80(yesterday), here is what I did.
Sprayed everything that I could get to with a water hose, would have been nice to have a pressure washer with turbo tip, but I don't have one right now so I just did what I could. Next I sprayed a quart of Mighty Boss degreaser on everything using a pump up garden sprayer, let it sit awhile, rinsed off then let it dry thoroughly. Finally I [attempted] to spray on Gempler's Rust converter Search results for 'rust converter' (6 found) | Gempler's using the same sprayer, but the stuff is too thick to get a fine mist, so I added a paintbrush to my list of tools and as I sprayed small areas at a time I would use the brush to even it out. I did 1 very thick coat (in a lot of areas I actually covered it and then came back over it a little later), 2 is recommended. I used 1 1/3 quarts ($14.25/qt). I plan on leaving it as is to see how it holds up, and if it doesn't then I'll do a proper pressure washer blast job to remove everything and then using a real paint sprayer I'll apply Rust Bullet & Black Shell or something similar. I do think that the rust converter should hold up fairly well; it's a very dark, hard enamel like finish. I could get some close up pictures if you want to see them.
