pull the positive off the batt and wait a minute and reconnect you ce light will be off but the computer will have to relearn

You can unplug that fuse and disconnect the battery a million times, but until the problem that's causing the CEL to come on is fixed, it's just gonna come right back on again. And disconnecting the battery has the same effect as pulling the EFI fuse, except that it will also reset your dash clock and clear all the presets from your radio.

Not sure about VT, but in NH if the CEL is on, you will fail. Had it happen with my fiance's old Volvo. You might want to call the place where you take it, see what they say.

I know it is only temporary. But you do it only to pass inspection. Worked for me. For my inspection they hook up to my OBDII.

you got lucky as all entries need to be flagged as completing 2 drive cycles or the station is supposed to fail.

It's possible that your's passed that and then failed again later.

I'm not sure why it worked for you, because you can only clear the CEL in an OBD-II system with a code reader. Pulling the fuse does nothing, as it gets saved in e-prom, the battery has nothing to do with it. Rick is correct, the error condition has to be there for 2 power cycles of the ECU for it to turn on the CEL.

Prior to '96 (pre OBD-II) the CEL will come back on immediately if the error condition still exists when you re-install the fuse. At least that's been my experience. You can yank the bulb out of the cluster, they typically only do a visual check of the system to make sure all the components are there.

But a better solution is to probably fix the problem. Something like a failed O2 sensor will end up costing you a lot in poor gas mileage and can potentially ruin the cat(s).

My truck now will occasionally will turn on the CEL, but only for about 10 seconds at a time. It must be a bad connection somewhere, oddly when I try to pull the codes out of the ECU I get an "all situations normal" code. It still runs perfect, gets 20-22 mpg, so I can't fix what ain't broke.

My truck is a 93 and I have had the battery disconnected before and the CEL comes right back,

I have every intention of fixing what is causing the light. (The ABS is a different story)

nice. that engine could blow at any second. Pete's is next!!! :-P

very successful afternoon. Seat sliders are in place, and we identified a few little issues that need to be taken care of. Almost certain I'm on the OE headgasket so that will need to be addressed at some point int eh very near future. Need to replace some belts and things. Other then that I think it's safe to say it got the thumbsup. :)

Good, that only took 5 months! You really shouldn't rush these things.
Ok, lets go wheeling!

You're not really gonna drive it are you??

Alright, truck is registered, but am I driving it today? Nope. Dead battery... I half expected that as it hasn't been started in quite a while. I'll put it on the charger tonight and see how it does when it's being driven more often, but I've already budgeted a new battery.

State of VT didn't nick me too badly, $270 all-in taxes and such.

Just ordered new belts from the local dealership, should have them Friday. Have an oil filter (pureONE) and will pick up some good quality oil and do a change at the same time (this weekend).
