Dave these all sound like steps one would take if one was planning on driving it ???

As long as it takes a charge tonight I'm driving it to work the next 2 days. :)

Little tune up this weekend, then planning to drive it regularly....or until the HG takes a crap. I have 15 days to get it inspected in which I need to address the CEL as I don't think it will pass with that on.

The battery is officially done, won't take a charge.. I'm not surprised as I've charged it twice myself already and I'm sure it's spent time on a charger before me.

Off to re-read the battery threads in the 80 section.

That's what I have top of my list, but spendy and not a local pickup. I do have an Interstate dealer here though and from my reading the Interstate Megatron Plus is the top lead acid battery. For under $100 it's tough to beat.

As long as we are on the subject Rick, what oil would you recommend? Anything in particular? Going to do a change this weekend also. I believe I need 9 quarts.

inter state batteries are good, use mobile 1 syn, and yes about 9 qts. oh and get a toyota oil filter

I've been calling all over for the Battery I want (Interstate Megatron Plus 27F) but no one has it in stock. I found a place with the 27 but I believe that has the posts on the wrong sides for this application. I really hate to wait another flippin week.

Electronic Application Guide - Automotive

I'll take my current battery and head over to that place on Saturday morning and see if the 27 will work. That's what is called for for "HD & Can" the regular one is 24F so maybe they'll have that one in stock (more common size) I have to go right past their to get oil for the oil change anyway.

[/thinking out loud]

I called back over to the Interstate dealer and he's confident they will have something that will work. My old battery (a Napa Legend iirc) was quite large and fit well in the battery box so I'll take that over and find something comparable in size and post orientation.

Just picked up my belts from the dealership. There's 3 of them packed together (I was only expecting 2).

So I'm all set for tomorow now. :)

1 for the ac and the fan and alternator have a double belt design nice redundant design

yup, found a couple of good step by step threads with pics and sent them to my phone so I should be all set.

Not sure I'll do the AC belt tomorrow... there isn't one on their now and I'm assuming that's for a reason.

It will be nice to get the right fan belts on there, you heard how bad the current ones (non-oem) sing. :)

funny how the toyota belts quiet it right down:D

Battery done. Local place had this one listed as their 24F or 27F equivalent, I think it's a 31R but don't quote me. Fits great, I put a small piece of wood under it to lift it up. Got some new J hooks and trimmed them to fit so it's all nug and secure.

Did the oil change. Purolator PureONE filter and Walmart brand 10W-30 Synthetic.

The family really wanted a ride so we did that before I started the fan belt project. Low and behold we are getting a VERY ugly noise from the pside rear, way uglier then the one I had before. Head straight back home and smell brakes and that wheel is hot. Pulled it all apart and the ebrake shoes on that side were siezed. Cleaned and lubed everything and put it all back together. Drove around the neighborhood and can still here a rubbing, not sure if it's just an adjustment or what but I'm about to head out and dig into it again.

Besides the noise at the brake I still have that odd "groaning" from the same corner which sounds like something suspension related.

took another spin and the brake is still noisy, guess I'll be pulling it off again tomorrow. Ebrake doesn't work now either, related?

Got all the alternator bolts loose to replace the fan belts but the alternator won't budge. Realized as I reached for a mallet that it was time to call it a night. :)

those are a must have i couldn't imagine working with out them. I don't know if you have a costco near you but they sometimes carry decent box ratchets for cheep money good for your tail set
