There was a guy custom making them a while back.... Looked super nice and decent quality I think... But I have some vague memories that he struggled to scale up and ended up with insane wait times...

May have also taken people's money and disappeared....I remember a lot of drama. I think crusty is one of the few who actually got one but I don't remember the details.

I may have to look into it again. After 6 months with no roof, any roof sucks, but a soft top would be nice.

I didn't even use the bikini top this year it was dry for so long.

A small thing that's been pissing me off since I built it. Hated the tight radius on the headache rack.

Still isn't perfect but it doesn't offend me from 30 feet away like it used to.

Also ordered a few small lights so I can put the proper clearance lights and a license plate light on the bed.

Think I might see about getting an inspection so I can have truck plates on it, so I could take it to vic without looking over my shoulder more than usual.

I figure if I go in voluntarily, and not ordered to by a cop, maybe it'll be less of a rogering....Famous last words

I have a manual if you want it? Basically what I learned from my salvage title rebuild of the BJ74 is mechanically it has to be sound.
Brakes, E Brake etc, lights of course, wipers, heater and defroster. Exhaust has to be clearing of body, mine was 2", since it was
in front of the rear tire it can't be too close. I moved mine forward so it was 6-8" away. No rust perforations in the body, floor.
My exhaust downpipe he thought touched the block so he rejected it. I slid a piece of metal to indicate it was clear and he passed
it on the spot. Kerr Auto on Cedar Road did it, you drive right past him all the time. Drop in and talk to him.

Yeah, I figured no obvious haywire or rust holes, etc. It's little things like brake lines being secured that trips a lot of them up.

I'll have to spend a bit of time underneath being critical, but the frame being shiny black and rust free goes a long way with inspectors.

Kerns was probably going to be my first attempt once I get a few little things sorted.

They've moved to a much more upscale shop over past Friesens now. Big fancy 3 bay thing.

There's also a place on Adshead that does it apparently.

I'm definitely missing a couple lights out back so I'll do those first.

Exhaust routing should be fine, it's out to back corner of the box, but I do have a joint I'll need to weld up.

I do wonder if they'll object to having a mechanical stop on the engine, and not stopping with a key. That'll be a bit of a pain to setup if I have to.

See how you hit it off with the first one, and let that help you decide where you take it for the second. Ideally you’ll want someone who’ll pass it if it’s safe and doesn’t violate any major rules… as apposed to someone who’ll be arbitrary and a pain about things that really don’t matter.

The guy who last did a safety for me didn’t worry about a couple lights on my rig that didn’t work… but I would fail if they did because they aren’t allowed to be on. I could easily put the fuse back in so they would work, but I’d then get in trouble because they work.

I picked up an oil heater. Princely sum of a hundred bucks, which a bit more than a cheeseburger, but inflation is a bitch.

Not entirely sure what it is, but compared to some of the crap I've used it's fresh as a daisy. Suspect it's a new center section.

T3 maybe? Exhaust is .63, compressor side is a mystery, but it's probably close enough for the girls I know.

Also dug out the manifold s*** @slowandsteady BJ gave me years ago... I'd like to say I gave Cam some beer for it but, I probably didn't

I don't really have the technology for SS welding at the moment. SS rods at work, so I may give that a try. Or just say ****it and mig it. I don't really care about the SS thing. Still need to carve up a flange etc.


I have this ritzy crap I'll have to try to hide in the dash somewhere.

I don't really intend to overly turn the fuel up, so a boost gauge that goes to 60 is probably a bit much

Might swap it for the one in the 60, because it occasionally pins the one in it that tops out at 15...

In a perfect world, I'd be better at welding and fabrication in general so that this wouldn't be necessary...but it ain't.

Mounting it securely on the plate took some ****ery, but it worked out. No amputations or crashes, so I'm calling it a win.

This went from utterly ****ing terrifying to just generally unnerving as it went along. On its lowest speed, the old monster does about 16 rpm, and a pass takes almost 40 minutes.

"Patience of a saint" should be rebranded "patience of an early 1900s machinist" because **** me was that torture

I was brave enough to bump it up a gear, so a pass was more like 20 minutes.
Then basically pulled up a chair and played guitar while it did it's thing for a few hours.

So, now I just need to drill and tap a pyro bung and do a leak test. Maybe purty up some of my welds.


Plan is to use my spare 3b to get everything ready so the install isn't too much of an ordeal.

Kinda funny. Bradford's doing turbo 3b stuff too, it's like 2005 in here.

That does look super scary; but glad you're still in one piece and the flange is flat now.

Haha, I don't even know why I'm doing it, with the underdrive tcase, it drives great.

And yeah milling machine is on my list too.

Actually been thinking about making a mount for a spindle on my tool post. With this bigass face plate and a spindle that held a milling bit I could do a lot of things.

I have to build the exhaust flange for mine yet, so I'm planning to make the 90 part of it, so my exhaust won't be too much of a cluster ****.

Milling machine would be nice... so far I've only used a router with a carbide bit for milling aluminum. I know the scary feeling... but walked away with all my fingers, toes, and limbs.

I did use a milling machine for cutting in the detail along the corner later when I have access to one.
