So after a few hotlaps down the side road next to me, I said ****it, and transferred the 61's insurance over. It's down for a bit for a pile of things that I've let slide while working on the green truck.
It's kinda become known as Rhubarb. The hood colour kinda sealed that one. Swmbo approves, it's still the crackwhore at heart, (literally insured as my old 79 bj40 I bought in 1996) but for some reason wimmenfolk don't care for that name, and "sex worker struggling with addiction" doesn't have the same ring to it.
I started it a week or so ago, and it smoked like a freight train. Lots of white diesel smoke, and a decent amount of oil smell.
I suspect something got a little stuck, this engine languished in a field for quite a while. Opted to get it nice and hot, give it a good drink of seafoam and let it sit overnight. Then give'r the ol' italian tuneup.
Exhaust cleaned right up, like seriously night and day. So I'm calling that a win.
Only issue on the test drive (other than mysterious thumps and bangs which I'm sure I'll learn to ignore given time) was the brakes locking down after a while. I had to pull over slack off the pedal push rod a bit.
I seem to have a very fine line between pedal not returning to turn off brake lights, and brakes not releasing. A stronger return spring would work. I'll have to poke around and see if I can adjust the switch.
Also need to get a speedo cable sorted. The 60 series one is too short by a few inches. I might order from that aus place, online auto parts. They were awesome with the tie rod ends.
Other than that, successful test drive.
Drove great, other than the naturally exasperated 3b with 5speed and that s***ty shift into 4th.
Turboner is on the list for winter.
Just so there's a pic, so the millenials don't get too bored.
