Ha, yeah that's a gooder! Think i still have those flares somewhere...
And yeah unless General Relativity affects those living in Cedar differently than those at the bottom of the island, time is still pretty much linear and you're not too far behind me.:hillbilly:

Pretty much, tho there are some acceleration factors I've managed to avoid.

Diapers for example

Its possible Mel took that picture which is scary in itself .

Always wondered where that 55 went. It was a nice one...other than him having to add a jerry can of gas halfway through the morning haha

Tyler? Was in Germany last i heard, but even that was probably ten years ago. Got a happy birthday pm from him out of the blue . He must've logged in and seen the cake animation or something .

Nothing earth shattering. Bored at work deciding what I'm going to mess with on the truck tomorrow.

I got that little winch's brake figured out finally...or if not figured out, at least working.

Two one way clutch bearings in cones, and a center block cut into a wedge in a counterintuitive direction. Warns instructions are to "replace brake assembly" so one is pretty much left to fend for oneself.

I'd prefer it was a worm gear winch and not planetary, but for a cheap little winch, it's not too bad.

The reason I'm always saying I prefer the old Ramsey RE's to warn is because they're worm gear, which means you're not relying on a s***ty brake that snaps on and off with a bang, or even better, slips.

So they work well as hoists, and move smoothly from a stop in either direction under load, and hoisting and moving s*** seems to be how I use my winches most of the time anyways.

We'll see how this little one does. Found that it fits perfectly into this plate that came from the HJ61's old front porch bumper, so that should make mounting it a bit easier at least. If I want anything bigger back there I'll have to do some reorganizing of exhaust and a crossmember.

These are the 40 buck ebay hood latches. I'm not seeing a downside. Light years better than the 40 year old worn out crap I was working with.

Nice to see you got that winch working. It was a little over my head.

Haha **** dude for a while there I was pretty sure it was going to remain over my head too.
Assembling that brake should be on the fawking mensa exam.

in the end it was trial and many many errors until it started working for no reason that I could fathom.

Not done yet but I've been pecking away at getting the winch mounted, and properly attaching the meatplow.

I added a couple of shackle mounts to it because that's what my gin pole attaches to.

Still need to mount the fairlead, which will also take care of the front mounts for the winch. But I'm not really feeling like sparks and noise today. Maybe tomorrow.

Overhead hoists rule. Managed to do all this without having to lift bumper or winch.

Seemed like a good use for the stock 70 series steering box mounting holes.

There's some plates bolted to the inside of the frame that I'll tie into those shackle mounts, so they'll kinda slide in between a couple plates when it all gets bolted together. Provided I weld it all together somewhat squarely, which isn't exactly a given...

Once I'm reasonably confident I haven't ****ed something up, I'll **** up the powdercoat by welding those tabs in. Fairlead will go on top of the bumper, so I won't need to cut holes there after all.

Couple more things off the list as far as keeping the heat score from pinning the needle. Exhaust even reaches the rear of the truck now instead of just gassing the spiders under the deck :hillbilly:

I dragged my horrible old hard top over to the shop as well. After looking at it for a couple weeks, I just can't live with that roll cage.

Might keep the rear bar to hang belts off and to hold up the hard top lid.

Thinking I'll cut down the lid and use it as a bikini top. Never liked the way soft ones flap around and wrench on the windshield frame. But we'll see. Nothing set in stone here yet.

Now I have to go put insurance on the 60 before it turns into a pumpkin at midnight. We'll see how much those criminals raised the rates this year.

Pretty much doubled since the first time I insured a cruiser.

I made the truck heavier again.

I picked up one of those contractor style racks from P.A. a couple weeks ago. For 250 bucks it's hard to go wrong, I figgered if it didn't fit the 40 I'd ad some gutter mounts and put it on the 60. Couldn't even buy the steel for that price let alone powdercoat or paint etc.

However...no way it'd fit through my idiotic 7' garage door. Sooo... I busted out the chainsaw and made a bigger hole in the wall. Stole a panel from the garage door out back and added it to the front to make it a 9' door and still match, then grabbed a used door to put out back where it doesn't matter if it matched.

Had a bit of an argument with garage door people about chain hoists, because they're still desperately trying to pretend that what they do is difficult, but I boil water for a living so I guess I can relate.

3 days of heinous ****ery later...

Couldn't stomach that old roll cage with it's huge radius bends any longer so it's now in a couple pieces. It might end up as a bullbar on the 60, but I doubt it. The bends are just too big.

So I made a heavy ass headache rack and said ****it and welded some tabs for the seat belts to it. No doubt an inspector won't like that, but considering they attached it to the thin tin of the hardtop from the factory it's all a bit silly. So worst case if I ever get a vi I'll put a hard top on and pretend those are just for tie downs.

I'll ad a couple supports off the w/s frame hinges I think, but other than that I'm ok with it. Decently made for that price. Doubt it's any different from the ones that they sell for 800 bucks. All comes from the same factory in china I imagine.

Might still get time to put a couple months on it next week and drive it for a bit. Still some little things to do, but there's some house s*** to do that I've been putting off.

I'd like to be able to get it into 3rd or 4th gear and see how smokey the lump is.

I get to melt on the roof for a few days at some point in the near future tho, so it depends on the snowball factor of house crap. Yay.

So after a few hotlaps down the side road next to me, I said ****it, and transferred the 61's insurance over. It's down for a bit for a pile of things that I've let slide while working on the green truck.

It's kinda become known as Rhubarb. The hood colour kinda sealed that one. Swmbo approves, it's still the crackwhore at heart, (literally insured as my old 79 bj40 I bought in 1996) but for some reason wimmenfolk don't care for that name, and "sex worker struggling with addiction" doesn't have the same ring to it.

I started it a week or so ago, and it smoked like a freight train. Lots of white diesel smoke, and a decent amount of oil smell.

I suspect something got a little stuck, this engine languished in a field for quite a while. Opted to get it nice and hot, give it a good drink of seafoam and let it sit overnight. Then give'r the ol' italian tuneup.

Exhaust cleaned right up, like seriously night and day. So I'm calling that a win.

Only issue on the test drive (other than mysterious thumps and bangs which I'm sure I'll learn to ignore given time) was the brakes locking down after a while. I had to pull over slack off the pedal push rod a bit.

I seem to have a very fine line between pedal not returning to turn off brake lights, and brakes not releasing. A stronger return spring would work. I'll have to poke around and see if I can adjust the switch.

Also need to get a speedo cable sorted. The 60 series one is too short by a few inches. I might order from that aus place, online auto parts. They were awesome with the tie rod ends.

Other than that, successful test drive.

Drove great, other than the naturally exasperated 3b with 5speed and that s***ty shift into 4th.

Turboner is on the list for winter. :hillbilly:

Just so there's a pic, so the millenials don't get too bored.

Glad to see it on the road. We need more full glamour shots. Although since you’re coming out of the
Wheatsheaf having that heavy duty HD deflector up front is a necessity. At least summer is holding on for
you. Did you get a top made up for it?

not yet. I have a canvas bikini, but I hate those frickin things. Flapping and wrenching on the w/s frame etc. I figger tarting up the doors and a top is a next winter job. Hopefully the 61 will be back in business once the weather turns to s*** again.

Thank you for the pic, I was getting bored af (That's "as f***" for you non millenials)

I'm glad you noticed that when I referred to fawking millenials, I meant YOU. :flipoff2:

Wasn't sure you would, with the whole a.d.d, tl,dr, I only speak in abbreviations and meme's thing.

Meat plow.

We need more full glamour shots.

Gratuitous poseur shot. That rack will look more proportional once I have some bed sides on there, and my front clip alignment still sucks. But again, next winter.

A front driveshaft will have to happen sooner than later tho. Otherwise how can I make fun of bikersmurf?

Looking GOOD!

You know you're working hard on a project when it makes it to page two on a crazy busy board like this one...

Fawking houses.

Anyways, decided to start messing with bump stops. Might make this the first cruiser I've ever had that actually had some on the rear, but I figger I'll probably put something far too heavy on this at some point, and I'd rather avoid a tire fire on the highway if at all possible.

I may end up raising the deck an inch, but the lower the better so if I can avoid that I will.

Dug out my bin o' bumps.

The old FJ45 "targets" fit the curve of the frame pretty well, and them plus a 40 rear rubber are reasonably close to what I need for height. ( targets because the 45 bumps actually strap to the axle, and hit those big cast things. They've just long since rotted off every 45 so you never actually see the rubber bits themselves.)

and so, because the cheapness is strong in this one, I tried an experiment.

One of those "3am, too tired to be awake but this chair is ****ing uncomfortable" projects.

I'll cut the hole in the rubber differently on the next one because pressing in the toggle made it stretch out, maybe I'll try a forstner bit , but otherwise it's on there about as solid as a lump of rubber can be.

If it tears or splits away I'm out about a half hour of time and can easily pop in some sort of generic bump stop with a center stud.

Actually bought a pair of generic bumps for this purpose, but when they showed up they were kinda tiny.
Bit of a spinal tap stone henge moment

Maybe I'll use them as snubbers for the bed sides or something.

With that, it's bed time.

It never ceases to amaze me how much landcruiser sh!t you have laying around. :hillbilly: Nice work. I like having the ability to load the crap out of my vehicles too. I still remember when I first bought my house in 2007 and there was a huge pile of metal there from the previous owner to be recycled. I loaded it into the tercel 4x4 wagon I had at the time. Put about 1/4 the load in and the car was on bump stops....then proceeded to load the rest in... Of course if I was you I would have kept all that metal for future projects. :flipoff2:
