82-88 during the day.
75ish at night.
A little wind but would have liked more in the morning around 8am

Fun times but the fishing was terrible. Caught 9 pin fish, a stingray and 3 decent black sea bass

Came to ask about the fishing. I used to shore fish before kids but they aren’t quite big enough for it yet. Instead of rods we pull a 75 foot seine net and wear out the shrimp and blue crab, but much further south in Georgia. You ever see or hear of shrimp or crab at OBX?

We are flirting with some OBX camping but our main draw back is we camp literally everywhere else but, so far, our beach trips have been what we would consider fancy… in a house.

I caught about 50 little bait shrimp on the sound side with a cast net along with some massive mullet.... didn't catch anything with any of that... bought frozen mullet fillets and frozen bait shrimp - both of those baits worked better than the fresh live bait..... must be my crappy fishing skills.

This is the first time I've seen crabs on the beach at night at Cape Lookout. Thousands of them about the size of my fist. Little bastards will pinch the crap out of you and draw blood..... Tried those for bait and had some big hits that last night but couldn't hook anything.....

I started surf fishing once I had kids. (21, 17 and 12 now) because I'm not a fan of sitting on the beach under a canopy all day... gotta do something.

And I too llike renting a house at the beach but it's so crowded these days. Camping at Cape Lookout you have the beach all to yourself all day and night. It was miles on either side of us to the next camp. They have like 20 cabins too but only get a stove and running water and you'll run into a lot more people around there.... like 50 max. There are no crowds because the private ferry can only bring so many trucks on and off the island.

Saw a Land Rover crew out there... maybe 8 to 10 trucks. If anyone put together a LC trip - I'm down and recommend you camp there at least once.

Is your roadtop display the 8:8 or 8.9? Your pics of it mounted me on it and I ordered an 8.8 without knowing there were better options.

8.9

That looks like an awesome trip!

As for the crab question - I can attest to seeing blue crab near the surf in Corolla and I would guess they'd be where you were too. One of the little b@st@rds got me good when I picked him up to show my kids. Hurt like hell, but totally worth it. Crabs MAY or may not skip if they hit the water just right with enough velocity/rotation.
