@bhicks ..... "So here is prototype 1.0. Overall fitment isn't too far off. What I didn't realize was that the two square holes I am attaching this cup holder to are not the same size. They not only have a different depth but a slightly different width across."

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This may be where the confusion is originating. If the forward and aft holes are different and your cup holder legs / anchors are designed to accommodate those holes how would it fit correctly if you spun it 180 degrees? Perhaps I'm overthinking this.
Thanks

Got it. I made changes to the holes so that either square insert will fit into either square hole. I had to use the narrowest width and narrowest depth for both inserts. It is now fully reversible and can sit down flush into either square hole. Hopefully that will clear it up. It has more movement then I want to allow for that BUT once you use the 3M adhesive and the factory screw holes, then it's not going anywhere.

So version 2.0 came off a machine about 30 minutes ago and I just finished test fitting. It's a lot closer to perfect but not quite. I made a few changes and now have 3.0 printing. I hope this one fits perfect. Once I get it perfected, I will get some pics of the final design up.

Sorry, I thought the cup holder is a self standing unit that you place in front of the console box.
There will be a self standing unit that goes in front of the console box and another unit that goes up on top of the console that goes around the shifters. I hope between the two versions, there will be a cup holder for everyone. We will see.

Nice work Bhicks! What material are you using for these ? You know it can get very hot inside the cabin and already had 3D printed parts warping due to this (but they were in PLA). Currently also designing somethin similar for myself, just abit bigger though and printed in two pieces. This is what I done lately (gauge pod) printed in ABS (hope it holds well in the heat)

PLA is a big no no inside a vehicle. I only use American manufactured ABS plastic. The made in China stuff has piles of issues. PLA tends to shrink and warp once you get over 140 degrees. A sealed black car on a hot summer day can easily surpass that temp. ABS wont have issues until you are up over 220 degrees. If the interior temp of your car is over 220 degrees then you have WAY bigger problems then melted cup holders.

Time for an update. I finally got fitment perfected. My new issue is that the print quality is terrible. I'm getting warping and cracking due to the lack of surface area contact with the build platform. I can speed up the print to avoid that but then the surface looks terrible. In the end I had to flip the print upside down to get enough surface contact to get it secured to the platform during printing. I actually had to add snap away printing feet to get enough contact. The down side to that is that the "Landcruiser" logo down in the cup is now suspended upside down which prevents any accuracy to the letters. I had to remove that and put it on the outside edge. I ran a print last night with all the new changes to the file and it printed great. I will get is sanded and prepped and some pics up this evening or tomorrow morning. Here is what the new print file looks like. You can see the snap away printing "feet", the custom break away support structure for the lid (which is actually the bottom), and the "Landcruiser" text relocated to the outside.

New to the thread here. Your newest cup holder will fit into my 1990 RHD LJ78? If so, one more sold. I'll look for the announcement here, then go to your web site.

Hello,

When it comes to polymers (and materials in general,) China still has much to learn.

Looking good.

Here is version 4.0. Fitment is perfect. Now I just need to dial in the print to get a few things smoothed out. I'm almost done. I hope that version 5.0 (printing now) will get it 100% dialed in.

Here is how the adhesive underneath will look. You will also reuse the factory screw that attaches the console to the floor. It will go through this cup holder. I just need to find out how long the factory screw is and if it has an extra 1/2" of length to go through the cup holder. If not, I will need to source a 1/2"-1" longer matching screw.

That looks great, I like the logo on the outside better, more visible then being inside. Some white lettering accent will look really trick.

The end result is something you should be very proud of. It's very nice.

Looking nice! I can't wait for the 74 (floor mount one)
CruiserDan should have that prototype any day now for test fitting. I hope to wrap up both designs in the next week or two and have these cup holders up on my site some time in early March.

Not in today's mail. It will gather no moss once it lands.....:)
