Cup Holders?

So here is prototype 1.0. Overall fitment isn't too far off. What I didn't realize was that the two square holes I am attaching this cup holder to are not the same size. They not only have a different depth but a slightly different width across. I didn't catch that so my cup holder isn't fitting into the rear hole. You can see that in one of the pics. I have already made the needed change plus a few other small changes and have version 2.0 printing now. Here's what I have so far. Ignore the rough surface of the print. It's an early prototype so I'm printing at high speeds with thick layers. I will have a smoothed out print ready to show in the next day or two.

Nice.

How long is the phone slot? I have a Galaxy Note. It is just under 3.25 inches.

EDIT: Make that over 3.25 inches.

Inside width of the phone slot is 3.5". I made it that large to accept some of the larger phones on the market.

Perfect.

Where's my brown free-standing one?:grinpimp:

Here's the other design done at slower speeds and thinner layers for a better looking finish. The final finish of these cup holders will be much close to this.

Finally....looking forward to seeing these in production :)

Isn't that the phone that explodes? Do you have a fire extinquisher in your Cruiser? :)
My phone has many advantages ....State of the art, will fit in a small cup holder slot, doesn't explode.....

Mine is not equipped with the fire-starting app......

Call me up and I can walk you through the transition from flippers. It's tough but you can do it........

I don't know. I tried to give up beer drinking and threw in the towel after the first day.

Brad: Will these be available for center sections with no console-- as say on the bare bones 7x series trucks?
That one that goes on the floor should fit with or without the center console section that goes between the seats. I can't guarantee fitment on anything until I can actually get access to a 70 in Socal for test fitting. I'm hopeful I will be able to track one down really soon.

So 3.5' long, how wide? my phone in an otter box case is 2 3/4" and 5/8" thick. I'd need a slot 3/4" min. Was there a left and right version to choose what side the phone is on for those of us who drive on the right side?

This is great by the way. not sure if you mentioned already but whats the diameter of the cup holder?

You are going to want the slot on the left just like the prototype. That way it will not interfere with the parking brake.

Based on the photo I'd say it is 5/8 to 3/4 wide.

yes dan you are right, it also looks like it might taper at the bottom. Thanks also for just telling me what I need, now I don't have to think about it

The dimensions are such that as produced it will clear my two way radio equipment at the console.

I'm waiting for my brown one now........:grinpimp:

don't forget the LHD lj73 ones please. not everybody has a RHD!….:)
it does look nice!
In theory, it should fit on either RHD or LHD. Just flip it around 180 degrees and put it on the other side. It's a mirror of itself.

The phone slot is 3.5" x .75". It's tapered at the bottom to wedge it in the bottom. It keeps the phone from rattling around which was driving me nuts on the old flat bottom version I put on the 80 series cup holders. The 3.5 x .75" slot size is the size I have now converted all of my cell phone slots on all of my cup holders. It seems to accept just about every phone on the market and with most cases. There have been a few exceptions but not many.

Im missing something here. The bottom is not simetric, how you flip it 180 deg?
You need phone on left for rhd and phone on right for lhd.

Unless is made out of two units, base identical for lhd and rhd and top unit flips around???

Can someone post some pics of the LHD console that goes around the shifters? from the pics I saw online it looked like it was mirrored for the LHD in regards to the ebrake. The ebrake was on the opposite side as the RHD version I am working off of. The two square holes were also now on the opposite side which should allow the intaller to rotate the cup holder 180 degrees to now mount on the opposite side of the ebrake. Maybe there is more versions of the RHD and LHD console than I was aware of?
