Dustin, Do you only do diesel conversions? I am really interested in the GM Atlas 4.2L I6 for a swap in my Cruiser. I just hate the fact of getting rid of a stout transmission that is in good shape to go with a 4L60E. The 4.2L has a specific bolt pattern on the bell housing so there are no adapters out for it, you are pretty much stuck with the 4L60E.

Since posting this last night, Dustin and I have exchanged several PM's and a couple of phone calls this morning. He immediately refunded my money via Paypal and indicated that several projects at work snowballed and delayed finishing my parts for lack of available machine time.In talking with him this morning, I believe that his primary business got busy and it took priority over the side business of making adapters, as it should. Time slipped away from him and he didn't realize that the order took place 6 weeks ago. I also believe he understands my concern about not receiving any updates or communications to keep me informed after repeated attempts to contact him. Not knowing him firsthand, I'm left to guess what is going on with the parts I ordered and money that was sent so I took the action of posting my concerns on the net to protect future buyers. It sounds as though my parts are at his shop awaiting some final machining. Since I already have over $2K wrapped up in getting my engine ready to recieve his parts, I'd like to finish this project. I recognize that Dustin currently has the monopoly on 4BD adapters and I, as well as others, hope this is a successful endeavor. I will let Dustin decided if he wants to do business with me at this point, but my hope is that he does so I can finish the project I've started.I'll let him post up with any additional information as he see fit.Very Respectfully,Adam

Adam told me he would post up our resolution with his parts, but looks like he hasn't had time yet.

Adams payment was refunded in full as soon as I read this last night.

I take full responsibility for neglecting to communicate with him. Several things combined to take my focus off of Adams parts, my perception of the time between the last time we spoke and now was different from what it actually was. "Got busy" is a terrible excuse. I let this happen and will make changes in how I handle this adapter stuff so it doesn't happen again. I cannot always answer the phone during the day and have a bad habit of NOT checking phone messages when I get wholly focussed on a job that takes a heavy attention load. I will check voicemails and return calls everyday from now on.

I called him this morning to apologies and discuss where we go from here. Adam would like the parts, but also wants to make sure that this problem doesn't happen to anyone else. I can understand that and will do whatever it takes to ensure an adapter order (if I ever get another one after this) goes smoothly.

Nice job, way to step up and own the responsibility. Good business. Now lets get some of these 4BD's under hoods!

I'm glad to hear a professional response from the vendor involved. I hope from here on out there are no other issues. I live close enough that it maybe be worth driving down to pick up an adapter when I decide to get one. I'm a bit worried about the outlay of funds beforehand though to get the parts (engine, trans and so on) all purchases based off the availability of this adapter.

I guess it maybe a good idea to buy the adapter first so I know I have it before getting the more common parts needed that can be bought anywhere.

I'm going to keep an eye on this and put my 4bd plans on hold till I see some actual product in trucks working.

Hey,

FYI I routinely go up to Anacortes WA, if and when you decide to pull the trigger we can meet up. Save you a trip.

Thanks for manning up and taking care of this issue.. Communication is huge in any line of work, we all get busy. I look forward to doing business with you in the future.

X2!

Wow.. What a mess.. My mind is made up. I'm not buying s*** from him..

yikes.

Maybe vendors should be required to have stock in hand before they are allowed to post them up for sale, or be banned from the site(s).

There's too many vendors out there that are pulling this these days, and the sad part is they are probably alright guys with good intentions, but there is a thread about a vendor every other week these days.

And its the excuses that come out for each and every one of them, things like: family death's, losses, personal problems, accidents, then they start playing the victim card.

I really wish this could have worked out better for Adam and I. I have certainly learned from this and put safegaurds in place so poor communication doesn't happen in the future.

This was a situation I have never been faced with before with some circumstances laid out in the 4BT thread. I'm certain that all viewers won't feel I handled this the best I could, but I really had to do what I thought was right.

There are two very different viewpoints to this story and how you interpret what's posted on these forum threads is probably dependent on which person you can relate to better. I've had overwhelming support for how I've handled this from everyone who has contacted me and very understanding customers who've applauded the improved communication standards I'm holding to. I appreciate all this very much, but I'm certain that the fallout from this won't go away quickly and it will take time and sustained good reviews to undo one negative, well exposed, customer experience.

This stock was on hand, the part had to be custom machined meet Adam's needs for his Landcruiser.

So this was a one off part then? and what was so custom about it that it took 6 weeks or better? to not put it together?

Let me rephrase, perhaps vendors should be required to have ready to sell items before they can accept money, stock as in raw material is not the same as parts in stock on the shelf.

Anyways, weve seen this from lots of vendors with good intentions who have done this in the past, and a couple who dissapeared after accepting payment, maybe your a decent guy, but this story is an old one weve heard before many times.

I do agree with your statements. And again, this isn't an experience I'm brushing off.

Adams parts were an in stock item when he called, but I don't put tach drive features in GM adapters because the GM tach pulse can't be generated by a profile on the flywheel. I had to setup and remachine the sensor hole in the adapter housing and the tach tooth profile in the flywheel.

The materials are far to expensive to make custom parts without a deposit to cover materials.

After shipping my parts, Dustin has choosen to send me a blank USPS intercept form. I guess this is his way of telling me that he's having USPS intercept them and he is pulling the parts back.

Not exactly what I'd call a first-rate experience with a vendor and it's very unlikely this is the end of it. I have over $2K invested as a result of his verbal commitment to ship my parts within a few days of placing my order back on Oct 10th.

Adam
