Are you getting the rotating assembly balance as part of the rebuild? Please keep your thread on 4btswap updated as you go, I'm really interested.

I'm glad this is getting sorted out . I have been trying to scrape the money together for the swap and will be purchasing the adapter soon .I live in vancouver hopefully I can drive across the river and pick it up. :bounce:

Man, I am totally excited about this possibility. I do have a few questions though. Only Isuzu engines close to me are 2001 or newer. Price is okay but I read the intake and exhaust switched sides. (Which I have no clue which side they were on to begin with). Seems to me though that for a swap in a 94 FZJ80 a 2001 or newer Isuzu diesel would yield exhaust and intake on the same sides as the 1FZFE. Well, that was actually a question????

Also, does the adapter fit 2001 or newer Isuzu engines?

From what I read the Isuzu engine is like 200 HP. The 1FZFE (on wiki site) is 212 HP. Now that's not a whole lot and 212 is probably WAY more than my worn out 1FZFE but wouldn't dropping 12 HP make a noticable difference? Or...maybe the rpm's make a difference?

I just bought 33" tires and I have stock gears. I don't want to have to regear and if I went 35" I'd have to get some suspension work done (is stock now). I drive 55 unlike Sammy Hagar. Can I keep my 33" tires and stock gears?

My second option is the Cummins. The Cummins seems very straight forward with the exception of the steering linkage. Couldn't I just dent the pan with a hammer and be good to go? With a Cummins would I be good with 33" tires and stock gears?

I love the idea of diesel because like someone else said it's like a flex-fuel. I like the idea of getting better gas mileage but my main concern is getting off of unleaded. I don't care about recouping the costs. I looked into LPG, CNG, Electric and all those (except electric) can be done on a diesel also.

Both the Cummins and the Isuzu make jobs of power. its not the horsepower rating, its the torque. Even the Cummins at around stock 105 horsepower (yes 105 hp) is close to a small V8 in power. When you put a bigger turbo on it and slightly turn up the fuel it makes it what I call V10 power at idle, v8 on the highway. The isuzu is the same way. Some folks are bolting on the Hy35 cummins turbos onto the isuzus, or you can use a 4BD-2T turbo that bolts right on and this works pretty well too. It will more than power a truck on 33s.

Not sure about the later bolt patterns though, an excellent question for the 4btswaps.com community in my opinion...

Well, that was easy. The starter on a 4HE1XS is along side the tranny not the engine. I'll have to look under my 80 to see if I even think it would clear. It might have clearance.

I'll have to backup in this thread. I think the adapter is only for 4BD. Thing about the 4HE is that if I can get hold of the tranny also then I just switch the shaft on it (AW450 I think) and it'll go with my transfer case and no need for an adapter. (Not that I have any real clue as to how much work that is).

4HE is not drop in and there is no starter clearance... read this thread:

https://forum.ih8mud.com/diesel-tech-24-volts-systems/268941-isuzu-4he1tc-into-fj62.html

Now if you were enterprising and had the cash to try it out, I think you could try and get the rear housing from a 6HE1 - those are SAE3 and I believe the whole rear housing CAN swap between the 4HE1 and 6HE1 (theoretically - it has not been tried). The 6HE1 has the starter coming forward but in the place where your driveshaft would be. So I don't know how realistic that is either.

Another thing to remember with the 4HE is that its computer controlled so the wiring is much much more involved. I would do lots of research prior to committing to the swap.

OK

So...first time posting on here, just read this thread, and, wow. Moving on, I got this 92 cruiser that I have been thinking about going diesel with. Was all set on a 4BD, but then this adapter came around and I realized that I have a 2001 Dodge with a cummins sitting around that has no transmission. And I also have an 80's ish NRR with a 6bg1t sitting around. Hmmm..... Isuzu 6bg1t has turbo on driver side if I remember correctly? Seems like a pain to route around, and it is intercooled as well. Back to the 24v, wiring issues - how complicated are we talking? As this cruiser is pretty much an expo rig, with some moderate trails from time to time, I am concerned about weight. When I'm bookin down some 2-track, how's it gonna handle? And of course durability of the stock trans? Maybe maxmaven will find this out. Sorry for the diarrhea of thoughts, any insights? And who wants to trade a 4bd1t for a 6bg1t?

John

I just got my starter today as well. Good deal. Thnx Dustin.

I ordered an adapter from him a few weeks ago, I received the starter yesterday, so hopefully the rest of my kit will be here today. Just call him, he usually answers.

We distribute and stock products made by Allmaras Machine. 4BT and 6BT adapters are exclusively available via Jonesy's Offroad.

The 6BT Conversion Kit which includes the 6BT Adapter Kit is exclusively available via Jonesy's Offroad.

I believe Jonesy's is selling an all inclusive kit for the 6bt. You buy the engine and they supply all the components necessary to complete the conversion.
The plate is not a kit, you'll need to source the rest of the parts for the conversion.

what about the 4BD adapters?

Wondering the same thing. IMHO the 4bd-1t is superior to the 4bt, and i am on the hunt for a rebuildable long block.

I hope the 4bd1t kits remain available, I just received mine the other day, it looks pretty. Dustin might be hard to get a hold of sometimes, but it seems he always follows through. Probably busy as all get out trying to build stock for Jonesys

Guess you can add me to the list. I've been waiting almost 3 months for Dustin to ship my Compushift trans controller ($1100) and around $600 in other parts (throttle linkage, motor mounts etc.). Been trying to reach him for over a month with no avail. No reply to emails, phone is either disconnected or goes to voicemail.

Has anyone on here heard from him or had similar problems lately? Who lives in the Beavercreek, OR area and feels like checking in on him for a fellow mudder?

I was real close to flying up there in January for a day. As others have stated he has these issues historically but seems to follow though just late. His throttle set up sounds really nice but not wanting to Wait for an undisclosed amount of time while he has my money I am figuring it out myself for the linkage and may have to buy a controller down the road.

I called him every day left messages. shop/cell/emails for about 3-4 weeks if I remembered. He only answered once he got around to shipping it on the day is was suppose to arrive.

I had similar problems when I was having issues with my AC bracket belt routing. He is just a hard guy to get a hold of. I will be up there the week of Aug 4th. If you still haven't heard from him by then, let me know and I will go by there.
