This type of scenario is fairly common in the aftermarket automotive industry (sadly), and it's not just small scale shops either. I hope things get worked out and he can step up and deliver.

Adams payment was refunded in full as soon as I read this last night.
I take full responsibility for neglecting to communicate with him. Several things combined to take my focus off of Adams parts, my perception of the time between the last time we spoke and now was different from what it actually was. "Got busy" is a terrible excuse. I let this happen and will make changes in how I handle this adapter stuff so it doesn't happen again. I cannot always answer the phone during the day and have a bad habit of NOT checking phone messages when I get wholly focussed on a job that takes a heavy attention load. I will check voicemails and return calls everyday from now on.
I called him this morning to apologies and discuss where we go from here. Adam would like the parts, but also wants to make sure that this problem doesn't happen to anyone else. I can understand that and will do whatever it takes to ensure an adapter order (if I ever get another one after this) goes smoothly.

I'm glad to hear a professional response from the vendor involved. I hope from here on out there are no other issues. I live close enough that it maybe be worth driving down to pick up an adapter when I decide to get one. I'm a bit worried about the outlay of funds beforehand though to get the parts (engine, trans and so on) all purchases based off the availability of this adapter.
I guess it maybe a good idea to buy the adapter first so I know I have it before getting the more common parts needed that can be bought anywhere.
I'm going to keep an eye on this and put my 4bd plans on hold till I see some actual product in trucks working.

Nice job, way to step up and own the responsibility. Good business. Now lets get some of these 4BD's under hoods!
Matt
yikes.
Maybe vendors should be required to have stock in hand before they are allowed to post them up for sale, or be banned from the site(s).
There's too many vendors out there that are pulling this these days, and the sad part is they are probably alright guys with good intentions, but there is a thread about a vendor every other week these days.
And its the excuses that come out for each and every one of them, things like: family death's, losses, personal problems, accidents, then they start playing the victim card.
This stock was on hand, the part had to be custom machined meet Adam's needs for his Landcruiser.
So this was a one off part then? and what was so custom about it that it took 6 weeks or better? to not put it together?
Let me rephrase, perhaps vendors should be required to have ready to sell items before they can accept money, stock as in raw material is not the same as parts in stock on the shelf.
Anyways, weve seen this from lots of vendors with good intentions who have done this in the past, and a couple who dissapeared after accepting payment, maybe your a decent guy, but this story is an old one weve heard before many times.
