If it came down to it that could be welded and machined.
When I get back into town next week I may see about that if I haven't heard from diesel adapters.

Airport boredom has set in and I can't stop ordering stuff. I guess maybe it's knowing the new year budget freeze Is coming. We are going on a family trip to Japan two summers from now and need to start saving for that. Wife is half Japanese and has family over there. No telling what kind of parts I will want to bring back from there.
Anyway enough of that. Ordered Mark's gear set for the split case. Been wanting to pull the trigger for awhile.

Got an email from diesel adapters just now. They are replacing the cracked housing for free. That's good news. What I feared was blown head gasket is just now only a bit of coolant loss with a nice tutorial in how things work and come apart.

Glad to hear you dodged a bullet.

Mine was not so lucky lol

Been following your thread. I feel for you. I guess you will have it bullet proof after the HG.

Yeah hope so, was supose to be bullet proof first time round lol.

Very glad to see you found the issue and its getting fixed easily. Best part is the mods it has apparently opened up.

I did my good dead for the day. I had just got my rental car from the Oange County Airport and noticed an 80 series with the hood up in the parking garage so I stopped. The nice lady had pulled over due to a weird smell coming from the engine bay. Turns out that she just got her brakes done and they over filled her master cylinder resulting in it oozing out . I used some napkins she had to absorb some of the fluid out and sent her on her way.

Well done with the good deed, nice to hear and see them...

Valve springs, retainers, spring compressor, and feeler gauge arrived. I will have to wait to install till I get my accessory bracket and belt back on so I can cycle the cylinders using the alternator pulley.
I also mailed my cracker thermostat housing to diesel adapters today so they can send out a replacement. They said it was the first failure they had seen. I am assuming that I may have the most miles on their design at little over 8,000 and hope it's not a long term problem. I would think most people using their design would be here on MUD so failures would be posted.

Got all my power upgrades in but can't install until I get my thermostat housing back in. Sent the housing to diesel adapters, which got to them on Monday, but haven't heard anything from them. Emailed a couple times to see if they knew why it failed and to see if they sent the replacement. I hope I'm not in for a long wait like others trying to get their parts. Maybe getting it welded and machined would have been a better choice. Hopefully I'm stressing for nothing.

In my downtime I took the AFC housing off to install the new fuel plate. Hardest part was chiseling off the break off screws that came from the factory. I guess that's Cummins way of stopping people from messing with things.

Stock fuel plate.

Stock fuel plate (left) compared to new one (right). Hard to believe the slight difference adds 40-50hp.

New fuel plate installed using template that came with the kit. Template helped keep it in the stock location. I could also move it forward for more power but I will see how it feels first. I don't want excessive smoke. Everything in the kit made it real easy to install. I was very hesitant at first.

AFC housing moved to vise to install new spring. Also very easy to install with the provided instructions.

Id push it and the afc forward and then use the starwheel to dial back smoke.
I did put the AFC all the way forward as the instructions said to do which I'm pretty sure it's right where it was before it was removed. One thing good about the engine paint job is I can always tell where certain things line up. Without test driving it's hard to know what's going to happen. It's killing me right now not being able to drive it. Now that all the break off screws are replaced I can get back in there pretty quick for adjustment.

Got everything back in place. I didn't have enough new coolant to fill it back up so it will have to wait till tomorrow.

I also need to find some new intake horn bolts. The ones I pulled out this weekend are not to my liking. It looks like there was red loctite on them as well which I don't have. Only blue.

If you're going to buy new bolts, may I buy that set of 4 off of you?
I'm going to try to find some locally today. If I can't I'm going to reuse for now so I can drive it. You can definetely have them when I do find replacements.

4K governor springs are in. Went in easy breezy. One issue I had was I boogered up the cap thread and am now looking for a replacement. Always something.

Just picked up a replacement cap and got a bonus tutorial from the guys at Austin Fuel Injection on what to expect and how to adjust. They had a p pump sitting in the back and showed me a few things on it.
