Just looking at Stevo's build and realized that my current tach set up is not going to work. What are you guys with 4bts using for tach set ups?

Depending on how well my setup works, I don't see why you couldn't do the exact same thing. I should hopefully know on friday. :D
I should have thrown the spare ABS sensor in that box for you.

Hindsight! I don't think it would work though. I don't have a balancer on the front of my engine.

It will work on Friday. No worries.

I got my oil filter relocation kit yesterday. I opened the package and the first thing I see is a bright orange sticker that says: "Not for use with marine or diesel applications". Darn it...or something stronger. Does anyone have an oil filter relocation kit on their Cummins? Other than the $209 one I found at Pure diesel Power? It doesen't have to be pretty, it just has to work.

Can you make one? I don't know 4BT's, but on my Isuzu swap it was fairly easy and uses most stock parts.

Here are a couple of pictures of mine, for more go to my swap link below my signature. I have more pics if they would help.

Just an idea.

Wow! that's a nice set-up and an impressive build. I don't think mine is that workable. The fitting on the engine is part of a larger casting that comprises the oil cooler cover. I need a machined (or cast) piece that fits where my oil filter would go. And, I need it to be as small as possible so my turbo intake clears. that is what I liked about the system I bought.

Conkhi turned me onto a company that might have what I need. Thanks Conkhi.

On your filter housing, can it be removed? That is what I did. The filter housing was removed from the block and mounted to the fire wall. A thick aluminum plate bolted to the block and plumbing was ran between them.

Again, I don't know a 4BT's, but I had a pair of 6BTA5.9M's in my boat. Cummins makes a remote kit to relocate the starboard engines (right) oil filter to the port side. It has a remote filter head and a adapter that replaces the stock filter so you can connect hoses. The remote filter uses the stock Cummins oil filter. Check with a Cummins marine dealer. I used Cummins Cal-Pacific here in SoCal.

Thanks for good words on my swap too.

The filter housing is part of a larger casting that comprises the oil cooler cover. I would have to cut it off, and if memory serves me right, the oil galleys are square and not round when you cut the housing off. There would be no way to tap them. And, I definately can't tig aluminum. I'll find something before too long. Thanks for the ideas.

We make a filter relocation kit for '98-'02 Dodges with the 5.9 engine. I don't think the kit will work for you but the spin-on adapter we use on the engine should work.
Look for a Perma-Cool brand part #1156.

Thanks man! You just keep saving my a$$.

I'm wondering if I can screw the adapter to the top of the oil filter itself. You know, buy two adapters, connect one to the filter housing and one to the filter and connect the two with hoses and fittings?

I don't see why not. Just make sure you use good quality hydraulic hose.

Thanks to Stevo (Thanks Stevo!), I have a new (used) steering pump. I got the relocation kit and figured out how to remove the pump from the reservoir without doing something so dumb I wont be able to admit it for at least 5 years. Cleaned the insides out. There was a magnet in the pump. Is there one in every pump? Anyway, cleaned and installed the reservoir relocation housing. It didn't take long. That goop on the end of my finger is from the magnet.

Hey, does anyone know what starter I'm using with the small block Chevy bellhousing adapter? Or, can you tell me where to look up the information?

Is this the stock bell-housing adapter that came with the Frito Lays trucks? I think you'll need a starter spacer and the approprate starter.

Link with some info: chevy cummins

Thanks Dave. I copied and pasted some of the info to a word doc and will take it to Napa and see what we can come up with. I'm thinking I can only get the spacer from Cummins and what do you want to bet it costs as much as the starter? lol.
