I`ve got a 1977 Ford step-van with what I think is a 4bt but I don`t know for sure. I bought it sight unseen without doing much research intending on swapping it into an fj60 but I bought an hj instead. Now I need to figure out what this thin is to sell it. I`ll post some pics soon. will the 4bt this old even swap into a 60?

4bt in question.
there is an ID plate on the engine right behind the serpintine belt. As you face the engine from the front it would be on the right side.
probably covered in grease. IN general they are 105 hp unless it has the inter-cooler then the hp is 120.
Try the web site www.4btswaps.com for a place to sell it.
hope this helps
James

Not sure, but I don't think Cummins did the 4bt repower on vans that old..Mine came out of a 1987..

4btswaps really is a good place to find out more on that engine. I pulled mine from a 1980 stepvan but the engine is a 1992.

Which it's the factory HP setting for those 4BT from a Stepvan ?

Boots I saw yours come with intercooler .. it means 120 HP . ?

Yes, intercooled versions are 120hp factory and non-intercooled versions are 105hp. This info is also listed on the ID plate circled in the pic.
name plate 1.webp

Interesting Info .. just coz the 12H-T comes factory with 135 HP non intercooled ... and the 2H NA come factory with 105 HP ..

Yes but you are comparing a 6 cylinder to a 4 cylinder.

Nice looking 4BT. While you still have access, you might want to fix the KDP (Killer Dowel Pin) and also install an EGT probe on the exhaust manifold.

But with a pretty close displacement .. anycase you get all reason ..
