As things happen- I have the buyer of the Ranger picking it up tomorrow and the LAndcruiser getting dropped off tomorrow- I will miss this one as Sunday I am going over the 60 and seeing what I have to work with. I hope you guys have fun and be safe. Its gonna be cold tonight..so bundle up.

Hello? Anyone out there? Man it gets lonely on this board when everyone except me is out camping and wheeling. Any only Friday night campers back with pics yet.

I went out last night and came back this morning. Camped at the Bald (Sugar Creek Gap). Lots of Land Cruisers AND another cruiser club was out. Last night we camped at Sugar Creek Gap.

No rain, but the ground was soaked, so getting up to the campsite was tough. Had to tug a couple, but everyone got up. Rotell was consumed by all!

1. We put the cruisers nose first into the primrose to make room for camping. Landtank's 80 in background. He and his son win the award for tenacity: cruised from North of Boston to come wheel with us. I was humbled. Nice guys . . . strange food (Giant Chicken Breasts for dinner, Cornbeef hash for breakfast, and not a grit in sight!)

3. Tires were loaded up with loam, which was part of the problem getting to the campsite. (Reminder to self. Bring bag of field seed next time). Made getting down easy--just close your eyes, put your tires in ruts, and slide to the bottom.

Just got back.

Lot's of vehicle issues

Infojunky died on the trail. Tommy was going up today to trailer him down. Steen lost a skid plate. Rick B lost a master cylinder. We got him to the cabin last night and they were picking up a new one this morning. Rick and his sone got the iron butt award. Arb tree saver compliments of Poser. Stu's 55 had points issues and a carb that wasn't running right the got off the trail yesterday. Scott and David (new members from CHarleston) did fine except for a runaway tow rig.

Pizza was had on the bald last night. It was cold. I somehow have managed to come down with the flu. Dan was a trooper and showed up right out of knee surgery and wheeled Sat. All in all we had a great time. Cabin was warm. Bald was not. Good to see Bob out cooking up shimp and other fancy things.

Speeking of fancy Rick and Cat got me a new sticker. Placed it on the front of my 80. Didn't notice it until that afternoon. Said something like "I'm not gay, I just like rainbows" Got some good looks from the locals.

Got a call from Steve a little bit ago. He dropped a rear control arm. He is working now on a solution. All in all a great weekend and great times.

I just spoke with Steve. He's on the road again. Thanks to some fellow attendees
who 1; had the nut needed and 2; drove it to him for the roadside repairs.

had a hell of a time and we really enjoyed ourselves. Right now we're in Asheville as the MC wasn't the problem, it's the ABS actuator. At the cabin we were able to confirm that the MC is pressurizing the actuator but nothing is passing through.

I went on car-part and there is 4 or 5 available within 70 miles and hope to get one tomorrow and install it.

 

[Southeast Overland]

Hey guys - I had a great time. I have to get everything squared away but I hope to post up some pics and more info tomorrow. I did about lose it (read: go flying of the road at 60 mph) but thanks to all who helped including Jason (jfz80), Rick (BMThiker), Karl, Rick (Landtank) David (Gundy), Marshall (Trollhole) and Merle (gearguywb). Rick ended up having a nut that I needed and Karl made a trip to bring the needed parts. A little wrenching and some odd looks from a ton of passer-bys and I was back on the road. Thanks to everyone who helped out with my little breakdown and also thanks to everyone who helped with the numerous recoveries this weekend.

Got Steve on the road fine. John managed to get on his way home(I hope he made it there fine) after we hotwired the coil from batt. and he could finally start it. I pulled a lil sheet metal out on my RF fender, but it was an amazing trip. We met some cool guys late last night on the Bald and ran into some not-so-cool Rover guys on the radio. Oh well, can't wait to go back!

And, BTW, just so Jason and I aren't the only ones that aren't clueless;

whew....rainy ride home and im beat!!! I had a great time, even w/ all the unplanned events/adventures, and a lil more character to the 80. Rick i wish you the best getting you and your son home, i popped into asheville for a coffee and didnt see you at the dealership, but hope all goes well. It was a rough weekend on the rigs but we all came together and solved most the issues at hand.

oh and if any of you rover guy have been monitoring this forum for the last 2 years, chime in and say hello

Kudos to Tommy $out for mucho firewood and offer of a cruiser trailside rescue service. Fortunately it wasn't needed this time because David dbenke was able to jump John infojunk's coil and get him fired up Sunday morning. Eventhough you still owe T for pulling your pig out of the skillet. Poor piggie now forlorn for the new flame Smurfy.
Oh yeah, Steve, btw: throw a couple of feet of baling wire under the seat and a roll of duct tape. Next time maybe half the club won't be tied up nursing the new baby **
And to Troll, no thanks are ever enough for all you do. Hot pizzas at a cold camp after a long day on the trail, don't get no better. And having the cabin for all the wimpy, er I meant sensible and disabled, people to stay in and avoid the never happened bad weather.
Several new members, welcome aboard. Props to Big Rick and son for thrashing the 80 all the way from Mass to trail with us. Hope you'll come back, sorry for the breakdown, or is it upgrade opportunity? At least a learning experience.

Fantastic trip as always. Really great meeting all of the new club members and seeing the old timers.

Got there with a complete truck, left with most of it but got a great upgrade opportunity in front of me. Sleeping and wheeling in the hundy was a completely different experience from the 40. I missed the 40 while I was tearing my skip plate off backing off a rock that was more than a little taller than my lift, but I didn't miss it at night.

Really glad the breakdowns ended up OK for the most part. Nice to see John finally smile this morning when David did the hotwire trick! Rick, hope you guys get back home safely... and this week! Nice meeting you.

Ran into this 40 for sale on the way home... $18,900 OBO! Say's it's a frame off 5 yrs ago. Looks nice but had some rusty areas on the hood, doors and surface rust on parts of the frame. Don't know that it's worth anywhere near asking price, but it's pretty nice. Located where 23/441 turns to Clayton down 1/2 mile on the side of the road. Can't miss it. 350, NV4500, PS, AC/Heat, other goodies. Brett Murphy, 828-421-1973.

Looks like it was a great trip. I didnt even get to do family stuff this weekend as I picked up some bug,m praying its not the flu, but 3 days into it I cant say its not. Sucks, but its great to see pics! Glad everyone made it home OK.

Bill - you need to edit your post. Tommy went far out of his way and beyond the call of duty to help Jason and me to trailer Jason's Pig back to Tommy's house where Tommy selflessly allowed Jason to leave his Pig until it could be picked up. A HUGE thanks to Tommy for this help because it would have been a long drive for me to take Jason home or to follow Jason home without a clutch - wouldn't have been a problem though. Another HUGE thanks to Jason for pulling a U-turn on 74 today to offer his assistance when my FJC was disabled and an even bigger thanks to Jason for hanging around just so I would have company while Karl delivered a control arm nut and bolt compliments of Rick so I could get back on the road. There are some really nice and outgoing people in UC - couldn't ask for more.

And what do you mean by "Next time maybe half the club won't be tied up nursing the new baby"? Are you talking about me? I spent just as much time this weekend helping members out (recoveries, trips to town for parts, delivering pizza to the bald, fetching coffee, cleaning the cabin, etc) than I did wheeling - its all part of supporting the club, helping my friends, and I'm more than happy to do so.
