Cruise Moab Trail #2 - Poison Spider Mesa

It rained most if the night and snowed a little on the cliffs over Moab

One of the first switchbacks has been badly eroded and was a little tricky.

I so remember my very first time in Moab in the 40 - 4 months after I got it (maybe 3 prior wheeling outings in AZ beforehand), manual steering no less - pre-week to Easter Jeep Safari:

the Blazers I was with chose Poison Spider - it was raining already when we started . . .

and then it became sleet just about at the ledge in your pic right there - "hey guys, you think I can do this, you know, my first time and the weather and all . . . ?"

"sure" :rolleyes:

nevermind all these open Jeeps full with scantily clad young men in T-shirts were itching to get out . . .

and sure enough, by the time I had to go up Poison Spider Waterfall, it snowed . . .

El Diablo climb - so steep I could only see sky for most of the climb and it has a nasty ledge halfway up. Most people caught air with a front, rear, or both tires going up this

sounds like "Launchpad" on the Golden Spike trail - not only do you see nothing but sky over the hood, on the last 10 feet, the front unloads due to a ledge

 pics

inneresting they let you drive BIA15 :hmm: - when we passed through in early April, there were quite a few signs outside of Page for all kinds of BIA roads closed due to the COVIDs

and good on you for "cruising comfortably at 85 mph all day long" :rotfl:

Well to be fair, I was only on I70 for 32.6 miles and I40 for 5.7 miles, and both were against a wicked headwind. I was glad I even got to 79 MPH ;) Every other road was 65 or below . . .

Day 4 - Kane Creek Trail
We ended up with an intimate group of eight rigs, our scheduled trail boss Matt Farr couldn't make it due to a starting issue with his 80. I was actually looking forward to get to know him better as he's been the CM Chairman for Rising Sun for many years. Brain Flynn filled in with flying colors and provided excellent spotting along with Adam, Josh, DJ, Tyler, and Shawn. It was a true team effort as Hamburger Hill has been getting more and more aggressive over the years and required some steely nerves and precision tire placement. The by-pass to the now huge shelf obstacle puts you with in a foot of the 100 ft drop to the creek bottom. The Pinch rock on the way in was less of an issue due to some artful stacking from the EJS crew. We had a diverse assortment of rigs all with their own strengths and weaknesses and weather would not be an issue finally! Awesome day with a great team.

Wrapped up the 4 days with 37 1/2 hours of wheeling seat time, met some great people, always learn a ton on every trip, got some data for my 40 build, and cemented some lasting memories with my daughter. Famous parting shot on the way back to the valley.

Way to go Dad! Too soon they are off to college or get married the that opportunity is gone.

next time, she will wheel the 40 :steer:

True @splitshot and true @DSRTRDR !! The early tentative plan is to bring her FJC and the 40 on the next visit.
