Kokopeli
Poison spider
Hells revenge

Fins, Gold Bar, Kane creek

E-Hill, Poison Spider, and Hell's.

There will likely be changes. I found out Chris & Maudie (brother-in-law & spouse) will be joining me with their dog Nix on Thursday, and no dogs allowed on E-Hill. So I have a request in for a trail change on Thursday. So that will be fun whatever we get.

I will also not do Hell's on Saturday as I have to get back to Abq. If anyone wants a spot for Hell's on Saturday, we can probably get them to switch it for you.

Fins, Gold Bar, Kane creek

Bonfire - you'll have fun. This is a good progression if you haven't had much practice on slickrock (sandstone) before. Fins will get you warmed up, then a little tougher with Gold Bar Rim, and Kane Creek is great scenery with some challenges coming out of the canyon at the end.

Steve - We would have had you post up before if that was all it took to get the trail choices out!

We should be on Poison Spider together on Friday. I've never done Kokopelli - I'll be interested to hear how that is.

Yeah I'm pretty stoked. I have only done hell's and poison spider before so I'm still a noob. Plus I'm happy to experience a couple of the Moab staples.

The new runs are: Kane Creek, Poison Spider and Hell's.

I'm looking forward to it!

We were notified today that the PTO freeze was lifted as of 4/30 so I am taking vacation and driving up Wednesday and returning on Sunday.

E-Hill on Thursday.
Arches on Friday.
?? on Saturday.

Anyone want to caravan up on Wednesday morning?

7am from either North Portal (528@550) or West Portal (Rt66 casino exit off I40). I can be flexible on the time. A 7am departure allows a leisurely pace with time for lunch in Cortez and gets us to Slick Rock before 3pm which leaves time for tech inspection, unpacking, truck watching, & visiting. Driver meeting is usually around 5pm at Slickrock. Bonnie and I will be at the Bowen. I don't think Rusty will be with me this year because of the E-Hill restrictions.

HDC Roll call....

Mike - Good news on vacation time! Glad to hear it.

I'd be up for an early start (7:00 AM) on Wednesday. It's good to get up there in time and get the tech inspection out of the way. I would vote for the West Portal I-40 route. I've gotten used to those roads the past few times and the Cruiser knows its way to Moab.

You're welcome to my spot on Hell's Revenge for Saturday if you want it. Bonnie will like E-Hill on Thursday. It's a long day, but very scenic, especially with the couple of hike breaks along the way. I'll be at the Bowen as well.

I will see you at the West Portal at 7AM on Wednesday morning.

Sounds great - anyone else want to join us? We usually meet at the gas station on the north side of I-40 at the Rio Puerco exit and then head off to Moab. :steer:

So either those boys are having a blast and have no time to post up, or Moab has fallen off the face of the earth. Those of us living CM virtually need a fix.

Pappy - Both Mike and I have said, it's not the same without you here. I've done every CM since 2005 and I think you've been here every time, not to mention the October trips as well.

Well, Moab is Moab! It's been a whirlwind since we arrived. Cruiser Dan greeted us as we came through tech inspection. His Kimberley Kamper is surrounded by a "canvas house" - a huge tent all the way around the camper. It's pretty swanky camping. AJ/Bonfire is just a few spots down in his huge Fleetwood tent trailer (with a bathroom). Again, pretty high-end camping.

We had an uneventful drive up on Wednesday (me, Mike & Bonnie), other than sticker shock at the gas pump. We made it all the way to Cortez before gassing up, but my truck took $81 worth there. Ouch!

Mike & Bonnie ran E-Hill yesterday, and I haven't seen them since. I hope they're not still out there! I'll check in today.

Chris and Maudie (& dog Nixx) were in town yesterday on their way through to Wyoming, so they rode with me on Kane Creek Canyon. we had a good day on the trail, but we had a V8 FJ60 break a short-side axle shaft on an obstacle, so that give us a several hour "lunch break" while the broken bits were disassembled.

We sent a couple of guys back to town to source a new axle shaft, but they were not able to find one, used or new. I'm sure one of the Cruiserheads had one, but everyone was out on the trail. Eventually, we left the guy on the trail with his Cruiser and the plan was to get the part at Slickrock HQ and head back out there last night and finish up the repair. The rest of the trail went without major incident, just a little strapping and wiching of an FJ Cruiser that didn't have quite the clearance and traction as the rest of us.

I know, I know, this thread is worthless without pics! Believe it or not, I was miles from home when I realized I forgot my camera. However, Chris was taking pictures and he has promised to share some later. So, pics to follow soon.

As previously discussed, I did donate/gift T-shirts to the Rising Sun group as a thanks for hosting the event. I actually sold four T-shirts to our trail group yesterday, so I've got some big money to turn in to the Treasurer when I get back.

So, hello to all from Moab! It would be great to get more of the club out here next time!

Sorry about no pics...the first part of the trip I was on koko and had no reception.

Here is a couple from koko (top of the world & rose garden) + 1 from butler wash last weekend)

I've got a few pics from Saturday's run led by Robbie and family:

Beowulf & Bonnie (who I think had a great time in Moab with the crew)
Mot and kids
Spressomon and doggies
Cruiserdan
Stickers & Pat
Me (in my new 60)

As always, it was a great little run with good friends to the top of Gold Bar where we had lunch and hung out for a bit before going back down. Mot did phenomenal in his stock HDJ81...and his kids Ezra and Logan had a great time as well. It's always great seeing Mot.

Robbie was great, as always, in leading the run, spotting folks, giving pointers and tips and just being a good all around dude.

Fun times.

Once I get back home I'll get my photos uploaded and linked...

Mike on Goldbar; Ali and John on Golden Spike.

Great times!

Looks like fun! Sorry I missed the Saturday group run, but I had fun in Moab on Thursday and Friday before leaving on Saturday morning.

I also wanted to give an update on T-shirt sales/donations. The club authorized a donation of 5 - 10 T-shirts to the Rising Sun club in appreciation of their efforts running Cruise Moab over the years. I spoke with the Rising Sun "Trail Boss" Steve Rudy when I arrived in Moab, and he mentioned that they had 10 folks on their Cruise Moab Committee, so that seemed like a reasonable number to donate, and it was also within our suggested limits. They got 10 black shirts of various sizes since that's where we had most of our inventory.

Our sales were a team effort with Beowulf and me, and Lurch's brother-in-law Ryan got one as well. We ended up selling 13 shirts for $15 each, so I have $195 to turn over to the club treasurer. I think that was pretty successful. Let me know who wants the rest of the shirts next - I've had my turn!
