I just checked the Cruise Moab website, since the registration is usually open around this time of year. Nothing yet, so I poked arround on the Cruise Moab forum.

Mark your calendars - the dates this year are Wednesday, May 2nd through Saturday, May 5th. They are hoping to have the registration up and running by January 15th.

I will be there! Who else is planning to go? :steer:

I'm in, thinking about an over night trail as well....

Would people prefer a Hole in the rock run?

HITR would be a serious commitment for this group.

One way in, one way out.

Could make it a 4 dayer with a drop down the side shoot to the Rincon off of Grey Mesa. That would be cool.

I wonder if I can do it in my Honda?

Something like this would be fun for a group run, at CM or maybe for the Columbus Day Moab weekend. We'd need a minimum 4 days to enjoy it. For those that did it 8-ish years ago with the club, it would be a second chance to make it to the end.

Onur, bring your Honda, we'll get it to the end. :D

Sounds fun to me... Onur your honda fits on a roof rack doesn't it?

I'm really trying to make cm this year.

Swypo'd from my droid using IH8MUD

Well if we do it for cbus weekend then I could bring my newly restored 80.

I know..hard to believe. It will happen this year.

That said 3 to 4 days for HITR is perfect.

Day one: get up to trailhead (or close to it) and get ready.

Day 2: Beginning to Alcove campsite on shelf road before Grey Mesa.

Day 3: Grey Mesa to Rincon camp on beach front property with not another soul. Epic.

Day 4: Back to Grey Mesa, to end of HITR, then back out. Long day, but doable. Back on highway then long trek home.

.

you're assuming that this trail is still open.

I am going to CM2012 and will consider doing HITR before the CM or in October if those plans pan out.

I'm all for doing it in Oct.! it would give us a little more leisure and looseness on how many days we spend.

so i kinda found some CM threads on RS... what trails are you guys going to do? any favorites? i'm considering in the moderate range, for armored locked 80 on 33s?

hope to do the overnighter of koko if they do it this year... looks cool!

i am likely the CM newb around here, but i found this very useful

CM2012

sl33p3 ur not the only CM noob. But I am very interested in both CM2012 and the HITR trip if poss. I may need some more mods before that trip. CM I would be in the light to moderate range as well.

I would agree with Shawn. I am going to CM and it would be a challenge to get enough days off to do both HITR and CM at the same time in May. But HITR sounds like a great idea for a Columbus Day weekend run.

John -

You asked about trails. It depends on which trails they offer. It seems that the list changes a bit from year to year.

You would like Metal Masher. Steel Bender is also fun, if it's on the list. Since you've never been to Moab before, Fins & Things is a good intro to slickrock driving. I would recommend F&T for the first day's drive. Hell's Revenge would also be a good one after you're warmed up.

For a first-timer, I would avoid Moab Rim (off-camber on the cliff edge), Behind the Rocks (very fun, but pretty hard core. This is where Pappy rolled last year.), and Golden Spike (a long, hard trail, but fun. Try it when you come back next time!).

I heard good things about the KOKO overnighter last year, but I haven't tried it yet.

sign up fast for the koko run (like on day 1)

I agree with most of Evans recommendations, but I wouldn't waste my time on Fins. Hells is similar, but way more fun. You can skip pretty much anything challenging if you so choose. Fins just doesn't have anything challenging.

I'm liking that kokopelli trail too.
