I suspect RS will use the same simplex freq as last year. It will vary by trail.

I was hoping to sign up but first need to renew my TLCA membership.

Imagine my surprise at finding this:

Hey Pappy,
I just read your sig.
Who is this Juane you are referring to?

"EFI Jon, EFI"

Is there another Juane lurking about?

No, no, I recall that you did consider it. For about 5 minutes...

What's with the TLCA web site?

My girl friend wants to go to Cruise Moab....

The web site for TLCA seems to be down and the webmaster is on vacation. I sent others a note

e-mail tlca.admin@gmail.com about your membership renewal and she should be able to help you

Here's a quick rundown on our current comm plan.

General usage: 146.460 simplex

Each trail will have their own frequency. Most will be the same as last year, but there are a couple we'll change due to interference issues.

Cell phones generally work in Area BFE. IIRC, Verizon & ATT both had coverage.

We're working on a super-secret comm project, too. I'll just say that HAM coverage and internet access are part of it. No guarantees, but "we're working on it".

Good deal, thanks for the info Hants.

Sounds like fun. I hope to have my APRS fully functional by then; wondering if there will be any digipeaters running in Moab or nearby.

What? A 190 foot antenna with a 100watt radio?

The use of HAM last year was a big improvement in overall communications between the trail leaders. You guys at Rising Sun are doing a great job getting our hobby to transition to amateur radio.

Countdown - as of Sunday, time is T-minus two months and counting. CM 2010 will be here before we know it. I booked a room at the Bowen Motel since the :princess: may be joining me. Anyone else staying in town?

Time to start the Moab prep list and make sure everything is in good order before the trip. Can't wait!

Anybody starting to get excited yet? We're only 3 away.

I am, I am! :bounce:

However, I still have a long to-do list. That will keep me busy until it's time to hit the road.

I'm excited too! My list is getting longer and a whole lot less time to get stuff done. Like the water pump leaking... should be here friday.

Good luck with the water pump. Mine is mostly maintenance at this point and not repairs. The Cruiser will hit 182,000 miles on the way to Moab if not before.

I'm debating whether or not to bring my folding canopy/shade structure. Does the experience of those that have attended CM before say that it will be too windy to use it? Will I even need it, since we'll leave in the morning and return in the afternoon/evening from runs? It takes up enough space that I don't want to bring something that I won't be able to use.

Are you camping at the CM staging area (Area BFE)? If so, you may want some shade. I have never been there, but I'm guessing there's not a lot for shade. The winds can be fierce, but they don't blow all the time. Also, depending on your runs, you may not be out all day - some runs are shorter. I do think that Risng Sun will have a large tent set up for the dinner and it would likely be available other times as well, but that may or may not be close to where you are camping.

If you do decide to bring it, you will want to be able to stake it down very securely if you plan to leave it up while you're away. Otherwise, it could end up in the next county. Either that, or put it up and down every time you want to use it, which may be more trouble than it's worth.
