On the way back from off-roading at COTR, my cruise control would cut out on its own without touching the brake. I have not reliably replicated the conditions to cause this. Note that the CC light remains illuminated.

Also, related or possibly not, the "slip indicator light" (looks like a skidding car) has came on twice along with the alarm. Note that the VSC TRAC light did NOT illuminate, and the ABS did not engage.

I have not pulled codes or consulted the FSM yet, but I'll leaning wheel speed sensor...?

Next thought would be steering rack related. Mine is original as far as I know (334k miles).

The cruise on these is NOT vacuum, right?

Also, I have found others thread about CC randomly cutting out similarly but did not find a solution that I recall.

Scan gauge says no codes.

If it is a wheel sensor, the code may clear (mine did) when the truck is shut off. For trouble shooting I plugged in TechStream as soon as I got home one night (with ABS light on) and found the sensor causing the issue. It took a couple weeks as my issue was very intermittent. Turned out to be a loose wheel bearing.

Have you tried to pull codes with Techstream? As @MongooseGA has recently found out, there can be codes stored (even active codes) that won't pull up even with an advanced hand-held reader. His P0771 code also doesn't illuminate the check-engine light.

I wonder if you've got something triggering something in your traction control system - maybe a wheel speed sensor that's intermittently throwing readings that makes your VSC system think your truck is skidding, but not on a routine enough basis for the truck to pick it up as a wheel speed sensor problem?

I'm one of those that cannot get TS to work. Sounds like I need to try again. If I recall the image can't see my USB port for the dongle.

Have you tried different dongles? I swear they all look the same, but some folks have issues with some of them.

This is the exact one I've had luck with in conjuction with the image on the 'Techstream in 5 minutes' thread: https://a.co/d/8lNWcZB

No I paid like $40 on Amazon for one. Way past return date. Came with a little CD that I read I was supposed to ignore...

OK so I've had this issue (dropping cruise) a few times, last time was right before CRockies and it gave a P0722 code. In my case, it was the speed sensor on the transfer case. The one that I mentioned I had changed when we were discussing transmission sensors in my a750 thread. I think I'm on my 4th sensor in the time I've owned the truck. It has not given me a code each time this has happened.

I love that you use and also want to maintain cruise control. Not enough people do and it's why highways suck. You sir, do not suck.

As far as the slippage, I never had the issue until putting urethane rack bushings in. I've had it occur 2-3x, scared the crap out of me, and my Ms when she was driving. Repeatable on the same sweeping turn outside of our neighborhood. What was your driving scenario when this occurred? Going straight? Turning?

I’ve been having similar intermittent issues in my 100 Series on the same stretch of road and sometimes on long curves, on-ramps etc. The VSC light comes on, as well as the alarm and sometimes the front ABS tries to engage on its own, which is pretty unnerving. I purchased new bushings for the steering rack because I’ve noticed quite a bit of play, and read in a few instances that it was worn bushings causing these issues for a lot of other 100 Series owners. I still haven’t installed the new bushings. Is it possible to replace them without having to remove the steering rack? Thanks!

You sure can. It's a real fun job, but totally doable. There are a number of threads here detailing the process.

So I've determined the cruise cuts out when making small right-hand curve. It will not immediately allow me to re-set it. I eventually can but don't know what allows it.

I also had the Slip Indicator Light (i.e. skid) and beeping happen again yesterday (no braking or other lights).

I've been thinking and reading, and I think I may be on to something:

Just to add another data point to the conversation. I had the vsc alarm/blinking light with self-applied brakes problem. It was solved with new steering rack bushings - the old ones were shot. Another symptom I had was cruise control would no longer hold. I observed that shortly before I had my first vsc braking issue. Cruise control issue was also solved by the new steering rack bushings. If you're having the vsc braking issue, check your cruise control. If it's not working, that may point to steering rack bushings as the solution.

After COTR, my steering wheel is now not centered. This is when the issues started.

I'm wondering if the steering rack/bushings are finally toast. I have new bushings already on hand but a whole new rach might be in order at 333k...? I don't really know how you can tell when a rack is totally shot. Mine used to leak some but the forum-approved stop leak product (name...?) fixed that.

IMO, if it's not leaking, it's probably still fine. I'd check your inner and outer tierods as well though.

Very possible it's bad rack bushings. Mine went bad about like 250k-(ish?) and we replaced them. But, not long after, the whole rack went. No leaking, but a dead spot developed right in the center, became annoying. If no other symptoms like that, I'd just do the new bushings.

Are you always in cruise when the slip lights come on? And has it beeped in every scenario?

I wonder if the cruise cutting out is just a byproduct of the throttle cutting when the skid is recognized. In my case, the cruise would cut out because (I believe) the truck lost good speed signal from the transfer case. But bad rack bushings in a sweeping turn have given me the same skid and beeping you describe. Pretty repeatable. In my case, was only after I installed poly rack bushings.
